Conference Speaker | Workshop Facilitator | Influential Person of the Year | Owner, Brainpower Training P/L | Podcast Host: "Manage Self, Lead Others" Top 5% globally | C-suite Network Thought Council Member
In Episode 126 of my "Manage Self, Lead Others" podcast, I speak again with Thought Leader and Visionary, Dan Silberberg, around the evolving role of leadership in a world of disruption. There’s a shift from focusing solely on productivity to valuing intelligence as a key competitive advantage. The VUCA framework describes multiple areas of disruption. ✔️ A leader’s full time job is global volatility. ✔️ So also is global uncertainty and unpredictability. ✔️ Another full time job is unraveling complexity. ✔️ And then the last one to deal with is ambiguity. The traditional hierarchical model is insufficient for dealing with such complexities. Dan advocates an ecosystem approach where leaders become facilitators rather than top-down decision-makers. To be a great leader requires critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and lifelong learning. We need authentic organizational values, hiring based on cultural fit, personal authenticity in interviews. Leaders need to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape by fostering innovation, embracing diversity, and building trust within their organizations. Dan's program, a Leader Council for C-Suite Leaders, starts soon. Find Manage Self, Lead Others via your favourite podcast app, and videos on Spotify and Youtube. Stop Buying the Dream: It’s Time to Explore What You’ve Got. 🚫✨ In our latest EVOLVE podcast episode, Ginny Baillie dropped a hard truth: too many organizations are “buying the dream” with flashy leadership development programs that promise transformation but fail to deliver real, lasting change. The allure of slick marketing and grand promises often blinds us to the reality—most of these programs are designed to sell a vision, not to equip leaders with the skills they truly need. We get it. The promise of a three-day course that "transforms mindsets," "empowers teams," and "delivers ROI" sounds irresistible. But let’s be honest: after the excitement fades and the binders collect dust, what’s really changed? Leaders revert to old habits, teams remain siloed, and those big investments rarely translate into tangible outcomes. Ginny’s approach challenges us to think differently: what if we stopped looking for the next big solution and started exploring what’s already here? What if we focused on creating spaces for genuine connection, where leaders and teams can bring their real, unscripted challenges to the table? The truth is, real transformation doesn’t come from “buying the dream.” It comes from getting uncomfortable, from digging into the messy, imperfect realities of our work, and from holding space for each other to learn and grow. It’s less about flashy models and more about doing the deep work of listening, questioning, and evolving together. What's getting in the way of exploring what you’ve already got? #Leadership #Innovation #ChangeManagement #FutureOfWork #ProfessionalDevelopment #WorkplaceCulture #TeamBuilding #EmployeeEngagement

Hey everyone, I’ve just released Episode 9 of Roll for Leadership, and I’m excited to share that we’re diving into The Hero’s Journey and how we can use storytelling to motivate and engage our teams – whether in the office or around a D&D table! In this episode, we explore how Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey framework helps us frame challenges as part of a bigger story. I also talk about some of Nancy Duarte’s insights from her books Illuminate and Resonate, which highlight the power of storytelling in leadership and driving change. Whether you’re leading a project, navigating a tough deadline, or simply trying to inspire your team, using stories can bring everyone together and give purpose to each challenge. For my fellow D&D enthusiasts, you’ll love how the same narrative tools we use in our campaigns can make us better leaders! Give it a listen, and let me know your thoughts. What’s been your team’s “hero’s journey” lately? How are you using storytelling to lead? Huge thanks to Nancy Duarte for the inspiration – your books continue to shape how I approach leadership. As usual – podcast link will be in the first comment to this post. Thanks for all the support – let’s keep leading with purpose! #Leadership #Storytelling #DnD #Teamwork #NancyDuarte #RollForLeadership
