Hidden Harbor Capital Partners deal flow in July exceeded the same period last year and marked our second-highest monthly total this year. While there are macroeconomic challenges to be sure, the M&A market has continued to afford us opportunities – particularly in the smaller end of the market. As we approach what appears to be the inevitable start of a rate-cutting cycle, we are hopeful this will spur increased deal activity from all segments.

Larger deals are taking longer to get completed because of higher interest rates. 2023 was notable for its lack of large deals. With that, investors are looking to deploy their capital as activity starts to pick back up in the private equity space. Q4 PE middle-market was a tale of two cities as deal volume rebounded after a slow Q3, however, many of the deals involved rescue capital or reflected distressed valuations. Similarly exit activity rebounded, yet capital came mostly from continuation funds.
