Today is World Mental Health Day 🧠 It's a timely reminder that health isn't just about physical wellbeing, but also about our mental and emotional state. As health coaches, we play a vital role in supporting the whole person, recognising the intricate link between mental health and chronic conditions. Integrated care is essential for empowering individuals to take charge of their health. By fostering self-care practices and building confidence, we can help patients achieve better outcomes and improve their overall quality of life. The Australian Self-Care Alliance is championing this holistic approach, working to align healthcare systems and promote patient-centred care. Want to learn more? The 2024 Medscape Physician Burnout and Depression Report is live. Thank you to Jon McKenna who did a wonderful job of capturing the added context provided by myself and my co-commentators, Dr Nigel Girgrah and Dr Lisa MacLean. A few key takeaways: - #Burnout and #depression reportedly decreased (though it may be too early to start celebrating) - #emergencymedicine tops the list for burnout once again, and by a wide margin - Disparities between male/female physicians persist - Major reported contributors to burnout include: too many bureaucratic tasks, too many hours at work, and lack of respect - Perceived #stigma around seeking help for #mentalhealth challenges is improving, but we have a long way to go. We all need to do our part to address remaining barriers such as overly invasive mental health questions on licensing and credentialling applications (check out the work spearheaded by the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation) We still have much work to do! #wellbeing #burnout

Non-Medical Pain and Fatigue specialist | Health activist | First Aid for Feelings Manual lead author and trainer MA(hons) Dip.Clin.Hyp.NLP.Coach.EFT
Can you help the Self-Care Forum with their self-care research? If you’ve ever worked with me or attended any of The Helpful Clinic | First Aid for Feelings events, you’ll know that I like data 📈📊 I like to get curious and gather information about what’s going on here now and then design experiments and actions that can help ‘here’ feel better 🔎💪😀 Usually what I get curious about is pain, fatigue, stress and anxiety but also what I’m always working with is your ability to do self-care. Do you know how to read and respond to signs and symptoms from your body and mind? Do you know how to access services, products and support that’ll help? Do you know how to ease symptoms when you’re feeling any kind of awful? 🤫 When you don't know what you don’t know, you can’t change anything and you can’t help yourself feel better 😬🙄 Same applies to making changes to systems and protocols, curiosity and gathering information means awareness which enables action 👍✊ I’m one of the Self-Care Champions supporting the Self-Care Forum and they need your help. It’ll be ten minutes of your time and it’ll provide valuable insights because your voice matters, your experience matters 🗣️🎤 The Self-Care Forum are working with Imperial College London and the Self-Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) on a research study to investigate public knowledge, attitudes and behaviours to self-care in the UK. They’re inviting everyone to take part in the survey, which takes just 10 minutes to complete and will be used to help them understand how to better support people's self-care practises. In addition to public views, they are also keen to have a perspective from health professionals working in the NHS and how their patients practise self-care. Please feel free to share details of the survey to help them gather as much data as possible. ‼️ Please help them learn more about how they can help us help ourselves 👉 Click link to do the 10 minute survey https://lnkd.in/dHsced3Q #selfcareforum #FirstAidforFeelings #practicalselfhelpguide #mindbodyconnection #wellbeing #selfcare #selfhelp #stress #insighttimerteacher #pain #fatigue #anxiety #yourenotalone #burnout #ptsd #mecfs #fibromyalgia #longcovid #personalgrowth #life IMAGE DESCRIPTION Image shows the logo of the Self Care Forum which is their name plus a graphic of a person. There’s also a graphic showing a speech bubble. A text box reads: Your voice matters! Fill in their 10 minute survey so they can help us help ourselves! Across the bottom is an orange banner showing the cover of the First Aid for Feelings Manual (black with white text), the icon for First Aid for Feelings in white which is a three-quarters closed circle with a cross in the middle and the url for the First Aid for Feelings website.

Burnout destroys physician well-being. 😔💔 When physicians experience burnout, it impacts their mental health 🧠 and reduces their ability to provide quality patient care. 🏥 Addressing burnout is crucial to ensure physicians can thrive and maintain a high standard of care. 🌟 Healthcare systems can support physicians by implementing wellness programs 🧘♂️, offering mental health resources 🧑⚕️, and providing opportunities for professional development 📚. Additionally, reducing administrative burdens 📉 and fostering a supportive work environment 🤝 can significantly alleviate stress and prevent burnout. Let's support our doctors by understanding and mitigating the causes of burnout. 💖 💪 #PhysicianWellBeing #Healthcare #BurnoutPrevention #physicianburnout #professionaldevelopment #medicine #medicalstudents #physiciancoaching

Burnout... we've all heard about it, right? But let's be honest, we usually tackle it after it's already taken a toll on us. I found this short article on both preventing and treating burnout within healthcare. Hopefully, as more leaders learn to identify burnout early and as more individuals implement strategies like these, we’ll break free from the reactive cycle and embrace a proactive attitude towards burnout in healthcare. #HealthCare #burnout #medicine
