A big thank you to Shane T. Spiker, PhD, BCBA-D, for hosting his "Evaluating Treatment Options for Inappropriate Sexual Behavior" event on behalf of Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis (ONTABA). It was an informative presentation filled with valuable research and empirical data on prevention, teaching, management interventions, and treatment for individuals engaging in inappropriate sexual behaviour. The event had attendees from all over North America and some from South East Asia (Malaysia). The session was not only engaging but also a fun learning experience! Special Thanks to Don Togade, Ph.D., BCBA-D, R.B.A. (Ont.), the chair of ONTABA's DEI committee, for organizing the event and to Sydney Solomon chair of ONTABA's conference and events committee, for making it accessible via Behavior Live. The effort and dedication put into this event made it a complete success Thank you all for your dedication and hard work! #ABA #BCBA #ShaneSpiker #Education #DEI #ONTABA

I love it when an event comes together naturally. I happened to be talking to Ellen Wagner and Annelie Wambeek a few weeks ago, when we realised that our topic needed to have a wider audience so more people could participate. That's how tomorrow's Conversation Room was born - hope you'll join us tomorrow 18th July 2024, 8 pm CET / 2 pm EST. This discussion will delve into critical themes surrounding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). We'll cover the essential duty of DEIB practitioners to ensure their efforts "do no harm", address the shortcomings of superficial "tick box" initiatives in organizations that can prove harmful rather than merely ineffective, and explore the challenge of balancing educational responsibilities with personal values and financial needs. Additionally, we'll discuss the importance of partnering with experienced DEIB professionals to create effective and safe programs. Event link in the comments.

Background and Objectives: The team plays a role as one of the crucial indicators in increasing the performance of the organization. Understanding the perspective of teamwork providers in rehabilitation regarding the existing obstacles can help a lot to improve the situation. This study aims to percept and experience rehabilitation service providers about teamwork barriers in Tehran Province, Iran. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted by conventional content analysis. The participants included 15 service providers with different genders and locations of activities from within Tehran Province in a snowball pattern. The data were collected by in-depth and quasi-structured interviews and analyzed by conventional content analysis method and using constant comparison. Results: After analyzing the meaningful statements of the interviewees, 3 sub-themes “regulations”, “procedural” and “executive” emerged and from the integration of these sub-themes, the theme of “obstacles” emerged. Conclusion: Some of the results of this research, such as defects in rehabilitation management, imposing double treatment costs on clients, and weakness of teamwork training in the university, have common results. Also, some phrases, such as not paying attention to the role of the municipality in rehabilitation and the number of rehabilitation trustees have not been mentioned in the interviews. Based on the results, it was found that obstacles based on regulations, processes, and implementation play a role in the development of teamwork in rehabilitation. #Perception, #Cognitioin, #Rehabilitation, #HolisticTherapies

Introducing one of MCM Collaborative's newest clinicians, Ibtisam Azem, LMSW! Ibtisam's journey started as a young girl in historic Palestine where psychotherapy was a luxury at best, or inaccessible and underappreciated. Her experience in other fields, as a journalist and novelist, and her extensive interaction with various cultures, informs and enriches her clinical approach, which includes CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and mindfulness. In her own words, "Our relationship is one of most important pillars for successful therapy. Humor, art, and literary references are additional tools that I use for inspiration and to deal with challenges. Despite the pain, therapy can be a journey of discovery that brings joy." To find out more about Ibtisam or to schedule a consultation for therapy with her in Arabic and/or English, check out our website https://bit.ly/mcmcoll

PhD, Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Psychoanalyst SPI-IPA, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo Italy
In this brilliant and provocative article, published in Volume 77/1996 of the IJP, Kernberg, who was about to become president of the IPA and who was aware of the problems inherent in psychoanalytic training institutions, lists and illustrates thirty methods of destroying the creativity of future analysts. They range from numerous techniques for slowing down the progression of training to the accentuation of hierarchical relationships and the strengthening of institutional rituals, from keeping the clinical competence of senior members in the shadows, whose cases are not presented publicly (at least not fully), to not devoting attention to the knowledge and study of theoretical and technical controversies. Obviously, not all thirty will fit well into the personal experience of each of us in a particular psychoanalytic institute in a particular country, but surely, many of us will find at least some of them familiar. The psychoanalysis of psychoanalytic organizations should find more space in our training institutions so that candidates and AFTs themselves are more aware of the specificities of the functioning of the institution they are joining. At this link, you will find the full text of the article and (for Italian colleagues) a commentary by two analysts from the Italian Psychoanalytical Society: https://lnkd.in/dSWehAWy Luis Valenciano Martínez, this treat is for you! #kernberg #thirthymethods #psychoanalytictraining

Celebrating Success 🥳 🎉 🪅 Today we are celebrating the very talented Liz Bingham who took her CTA Oral Exam last week with the #EATA to complete the process of becoming a Certified Transactional Analyst in the Psychotherapy field, CTA (P) and a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist. Liz has worked hard for this significant achievement and has written the following: ‘Just prior to the recent UKATA 2024 conference in Bradford I, and several other candidates, sat and passed our CTA oral exam. This final exam in the qualification process sees me become a Certified Transactional Analysis in the field of Psychotherapy (CTA-P) and a UKCP registered Psychotherapist. My route to this point was via three different TA regional training establishments. Each with a different focus and identity, they introduced me to a range of quality tutors and training colleagues from which I have benefitted greatly. Most recently the excellent advanced level training from the Connexus Institute has offered the academic structure required to support me to achieve this Level 7 qualification. In addition, I have been fortunate to receive the backing of two exceptional Supervisors in my clinical and academic work (you know who you are, and I am beyond grateful!) This life enhancing journey has been long and, at times, challenging and has pushed me beyond that which I thought I could achieve. I have gained so much both personally and professionally and I am really excited for the next chapter.’ Well done Liz! #psychotherapist #psychotherapists #transactionalanalysis #selfawarenessjourney #qualification #celebratingsuccess

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a natural science as reliable as gravity, but did you know there is also an art to ABA? At VASO, we believe the “art of ABA” is in the consultation. This spring, VASO's BCBAs, Behavior Consultants, and Behavior Consultant Assistants participated in a comprehensive three-part “Behavior Consultation” series led by G. David Smith, PhD, BCBA-D. Throughout this series, they discovered that the strongest foundation of any effective behavior change program is team collaboration. Building upon this foundation, our team is now equipped with evidence-based consultation strategies to help clients reach their full unique potential. At VASO, we are dedicated to professional and clinical development, ensuring our clinicians have access to the most current technologies and evidence-based practices. #ABA #BehaviorConsultation #ProfessionalDevelopment #TeamCollaboration #VASO #AppliedBehaviorAnalysis #BehaviorChange #EvidenceBased

🌍 Working Within Diversity: Learnings from Myira Khan Counselling Working Within Diversity- Anti-Oppressive Practice Seminar 🌍 I recently had the privilege of attending an insightful seminar hosted by the Psychologists Protection Society on the topic of Working Within Diversity. The seminar explored the importance of anti-oppressive therapeutic practices, focusing on cultural humility, understanding power dynamics, and addressing privilege in the therapeutic setting. Three key takeaways that resonated with me: 📝 Self-Reflection: Continuously examine your own cultural identity, biases, and how they impact your therapeutic work. True growth starts with self-awareness. 📝 Cultural Humility: Engage with each client through curiosity, openness, and respect for their unique experiences—acknowledging what you don’t know and being willing to learn. 📝 Practical Tools: Use reflective exercises to build sensitivity and improve cross-cultural communication This seminar has inspired me to delve deeper into these topics, and I’m looking forward to reading Myira's book, 'Working Within Diversity', to further expand my understanding and bring even more inclusivity into my counselling practice. Thanks for the great insight #DiversityInTherapy #WorkingWithinDiversity #continuingprofessionaldevelopment #CPD #continuingeducation #selfcare #mentalhealth #therapy
