Revolutionizing cancer research with external control arms (ECAs)! 🚀 In a recent scoping review conducted by our team, we highlight some of the benefits of ECAs and why they are a game-changer! 🌟 ✅ Reduced burden: ECAs minimize the ethical and logistical challenges of assigning patients to placebo or control groups. ✅ Accelerated timelines: By utilizing existing data, ECAs can significantly speed up research. ✅ Cost-effectiveness: Leveraging existing data sources reduces the costs associated with recruitment and follow-up. ✅ Enhanced precision: ECAs can be tailored to match the characteristics of treatment groups, ensuring more accurate comparisons. ✅ Use of real-world data: ECAs incorporate data from real-world settings, offering insights that are highly relevant to clinical practice. ✅ Improved feasibility: ECAs are particularly beneficial for evaluating rare diseases or targeted therapies in precision oncology, where patient populations are often limited and highly specific. #rwd #rwe #realworlddata #realworldevidence #cancer #oncology #research #data #bigdata #analytics #advancedanalytics #cancercare #externalcontrolarm #externalcontrolarms Oncology Outcomes (O2) Inka Health

In Clinical Lung Cancer, Arthi Sridhar Eric Singhi H. Jack West provide Insights into mNSCLC Management through a Global Clinician Survey 📅 Conducted between July and August 2023, they engaged 127 healthcare professionals from prominent academic systems, primarily within the US. ➡️ Findings show a strong preference for NGS in non-squamous mNSCLC (93%), though its use in squamous cell types is less frequent (54%). Challenges such as insufficient tissue samples, infrastructural limitations, and reimbursement issues are notable obstacles. 🧬 With 72% of clinicians awaiting NGS results before initiating treatment, the importance of timely and accurate testing is clear. However, less than half of the respondents routinely refer mNSCLC patients for clinical trials, underscoring a gap in harnessing cutting-edge therapies from the outset. 🏥 As we move forward, it's imperative to address these barriers to ensure every patient with mNSCLC can benefit from the most informed, effective treatment strategies. 👉 Full paper: https://lnkd.in/ggXpKDbp #mNSCLC #Oncology #NGS #ClinicalTrials #PatientCare

2023 Precision Medicine survey findings suggest that the top healthcare institutions in the US are continuing to invest in capabilities for delivering precision oncology to patients. The survey revealed that investments in clinical decision support and new hires with expertise in precision oncology or molecular diagnostics were made by seven respondents. Additionally, six indicated their institutions had hired support staff like nurse navigators who could enable precision oncology. The survey also found that eight institutions invested in internal or external molecular tumor boards that review patients' molecular test results and provide guidance on treatment strategies. #precisionmedicine #oncology
