1. We ( a household with 2 Senior level Systems Engineers) have a saying at our house: I work with computers for a living. I know what can happen when they break. 2. Ever since I started doing tech support 20+ years ago, I've learned to avoid the latest thing until the dust settles and it proves both useful and relatively trouble-free or fixable ( by me, which is a high enough bar). 'smart home' technology ( for just one example) is really interesting and fun and useful, but imho is not really as easy to build and maintain as many want you to think, and I/we have enough corner cases and stuff to fix in our lives that we will probably not go down that road as a matter of being practical. 3- One of the best engineers I ever worked under used a Mac. As a *nix guy, I had to ask why he chose it, his reply was ' I fix stuff all day long. I don't want to have to fix my own stuff or have problems'.
