Retailers might be missing options to improve their e-commerce profitability when it comes to returns. One metric that is rarely considered by retailers is how long it takes to get an item back into stock after being returned. It frequently takes longer than 30 days for returned items to actually get back into stock. This adds costs for retailers and brings into question the profitability of the returns operation and the wider e-commerce business. The increased waiting period also causes an increase in customers left wondering where their refunds are. But there is more that can be done to improve returns speed. Find out what that is here: https://lnkd.in/e3-czw_t #Returns #Retailers #Ecommerce

Great insights from Richard McNish on e-commerce and delivery expectations ahead. While carrier selection can directly impact the delivery experience, not every customer has the same delivery expectations. A recent Descartes Systems Group survey of more than 8,000 e-commerce consumers found that 81% rated the security of their delivery as quite or extremely important; 22% preferred a precise delivery window over speed, and 39% prioritized the lowest-cost shipping option. https://lnkd.in/gHpFWtdx #ecommerce #ecommercelogistics #finalmile #ecommercefulfillment #delivery #supplychain

To enhance reliability, reduce costs, and improve scalability, e-commerce companies should diversify their networks instead of relying on one or two major parcel carriers. Traditional parcel carriers often impose various surcharges and fees, such as residential surcharges, oversized package fees, and charges for deliveries in remote locations or outside their primary network. Over-reliance on a single traditional carrier can lead to higher costs due to these additional fees. By incorporating alternative delivery carriers into their mix, companies can better mitigate these costs. The e-commerce landscape in the United States is continuously evolving, requiring retailers to remain flexible and adaptable to maintain a competitive edge. The following article further highlights this. #TransportationInsight
