DO YOU MEASURE YOUR DWELL TIME? Dwell time refers to the gap between a #3PL or #fulfillment provider’s marking an order as “shipped,” and the moment a shipping carrier actually scans the package into its system and truly begins to move the package. For most brands they’ve accepted the “status quo” - that exceptions to expected dwell time is a problem that can’t be fixed (and so don’t even track it!) and is an unfortunate byproduct of the fulfillment handoff process between fulfillment center and carriers. That’s a big problem - as it can reach almost a third of a brand’s packages, causing excessive delays and harming customer experience.
