Co-CEO Adam Comora and Patrick Serfass of the American Biogas Council published an opinion piece in The Daily Digest outlining their thoughts on how best to encourage investment in the capture and productive use of methane emissions from organic waste.   Recent reports found the incidence of harmful methane emissions from landfills is greater than previously thought – but confirms that their abatement represents a significant opportunity in our fight against climate change. The finalization of EPA's 2022 proposed electric pathway framework regulations would allow for electricity derived from eligible biomass resources and used to power electric vehicles to qualify as renewable fuel and obtain credits called eRINs. This would have manifold benefits to U.S. sustainability and energy security goals, including providing an incentive for landfills and farms to capture methane that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere, increasing and diversifying domestic fuel options, supporting the deployment of electric vehicles, and renewing local waste facilities.   At OPAL Fuels, we are committed to building and operating best-in-class biomethane capture and conversion projects that deliver industry leading, reliable and cost -effective low carbon intensity energy products that displace fossil fuels and mitigate climate change.   Check out Adam and Patrick’s piece here: https://lnkd.in/e5JM5yri   #energypolicy #methanecapture #renewableenergy #renewableelectricty #RNG #climatechange
