Having the freedom to make personal choices is vital for dignity, self-worth and confidence. And this is especially so for older people, who may feel unseen or undervalued. Our partnership with Thread Together (a fantastic organisation created to find social solutions to fashion excess), helps improve quality of life for residents whose circumstances or experiences before coming into care have left them in need of clothing. Since 2019, our partnership has provided more than 6,000 new items of clothing to our residents. Recently, members of our team spent a day at Thread Together, experiencing its incredible work to divert high quality garments from landfill to people who need it most. In 2024, we’re growing our partnership with Thread Together to provide even more support for residents in need, and offer purposeful volunteering opportunities for residents and our team alike. Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children provides a noteworthy example of the positive environmental impacts of supporting social good when retailers collaborate with charities to enable reuse of quality items. Through its retail shops and online sales platform, Newlife receives surplus stock and returns from major retailers and re-sells clothing, furniture, home products and bric-a-brac. 100% of its profits supports disabled children and their families in gaining access to essential specialist equipment. We used an extensive data collection methodology to conduct an organisation-wide life cycle-based carbon assessment for Newlife. Providing a detailed breakdown of carbon impacts at various stages of the product lifecycle and assessing the contribution of carbon savings from reuse activities. The data collected was inputted into a custom-built life cycle-based carbon model developed specifically for Newlife. The positive impact of Newlife's reuse initiatives on carbon savings was substantial: Newlife’s net carbon savings from enabling the reuse of donated stock was equivalent to carbon emissions from more than 21 million road miles driven by average cars! Highlighting the tangible advantages of Newlife’s reuse initiatives not only provides valuable insights for sustainable practices, it also allows us to present a model showcasing how reuse activities significantly contribute to the ambitious pursuit of net-zero sustainability goals. Passionate about bringing business and community together for positive social impact. Partnerships and Marketing ✦ Not-for-profit ✦ Leadership ✦ Strategy ✦ Corporate & Philanthropic ✦ Volunteer Programs ✦ GAICD
Taking a moment to reflect on my first full year at Thread Together. I'm honoured to work with a team who have so much heart, are uber focused, super flexible and perhaps a tiny bit crazy.... which comes in handy at times:). Engaging and bringing out the best of their teams is what lights me up. Our impact is amplified with the immense collaboration of our fashion, corporate and philanthropic partners. We aim to keep it interesting and meaningful so you may find us sorting, picking and packing clothing in the warehouse, or singing along to 80's tunes, competing against colleagues in a box-off or curating wardrobes for someone in need. Some of our 2023 highlights include: - Distributed 1.38 million units of clothing 🧥 - Welcomed 1300 new charity partners 🤝 - Responded to 11796 clothing requests 📦 - Launched 3 clothing hubs 🏢 - Diverted 1.7 million units from landfill ♻️ - Assisted 125,000 people, averaging 2000 per week 🌈 - Partnered with 2000+ fashion brands 👗 - Engaged 5000 incredible volunteers 👫 - Deployed 2 new mobile wardrobes 🚚 - Installed 100 inbuilt wardrobes in shelters 🏠 We also forged new partnerships with brands that are values and culture aligned. If this impact sounds interesting to you, please get in touch as we would love to explore how you can support our work clothing people experiencing hardship and protecting the planet, and have some fun along the way! #clothingcommunities
