Any advice on how to overcome that perception? I have had two jobs in the past year due solely to the fact that I had a health issue that was unknown and unresolved. The symptoms made working to my best ability difficult and I didn't do well. However, it is since resolved and previously to this year, I did stick with jobs. Currently looking for a remote job so that I can work to the best of my abilities and continue to stay healthy. How can I convince employers to give me a chance to show them I want to work and stay with them for a long time?

If you switch jobs every 2 years, you're a job hopper. And every 10 years, you're too stuck in your ways. Unfortunately, we've received this feedback. Which candidate would I want to hire? I have no clue. I have 5% of the information. There are a million reasons why somebody could move jobs every 2 years. And I don't think you should be punished for loyalty. The lesson? Don't judge. Ask.

Facing a layoff can be daunting, but that didn’t stop our latest Success Story, Kathy. With a positive mindset and some workNet DuPage 💪, Kathy recently landed a phenomenal new job. “The job is exactly what I wanted to be doing and the company and people are great to work with,” she said. “I am still pinching myself to see if this is real!” After her layoff, Kathy was determined to find a new job. By tapping into workNet DuPage's job-seeker resources (resume coaching, interview workshops, a supportive community), she was able to channel her talent, find her confidence, and land her ideal job. “At workNet I met many nice people in the same situation — a good reminder that, as job-seekers, we were not alone. We built each other up,” Kathy said. “Through the many workNet DuPage skill-building sessions I attended, I found my confidence. And in applying all that I learned, I received two offers of employment. Both were great positions that met my needs. I know this would not have happened without workNet DuPage!” “Kathy put in the work and kept her spirits up,” said wND Career Counselor Jennifer Weggeman. “She learned the necessary job search skills quickly and applied them with great success. I’m not at all surprised that she landed two job offers.” Unemployment isn’t something that defines you; it is an invitation to upgrade your career story. Thank you, Kathy, for showing that unexpected change can lead to incredible opportunity. We are proud of you and wish you all the best in your career! 😎 We are workNet DuPage, DuPage County's Workforce Development office, and we are here to help you (at no cost!). If you are DuPage resident who is unemployed, or considering a career move, be sure to attend one of our many free, monthly skill-building sessions to learn more about how we can help you upgrade your career story! After 16 dedicated years with the same company, one of my clients faced a sudden layoff. When we met, he was desperate. 2 months later, he spotted a dream job and went for it. 6 interviews later, he earned the Director of National Operations title and a $70K raise. His lesson? Sometimes, being let go is just a nudge in the right direction. When life opens a door, embrace it! #humanresources #careers #jobsearch #jobseekers #BestJobStrategy

I would like to shout-out Dr. Jasmine Escalera, Ph.D for her amazing workshop on "Rebuilding and Rebounding after a Layoff" at Jobscan Standout Summit today. This talk was way too good to go unnoticed and it was incredible to be connected with so many others who are in the same boat. If you have gone through a lay off and are struggling with self-doubt, remember: 1. You are not defined by your Job. 2. Own your gap. If you have been on the hunt for months, or a year, or more, you have not failed and you are not alone! You haven't just been sitting there, you are working every day to better yourself in some way or another and let that shine through. 3. Being laid off is not your fault, whatever the reason. It is your employers responsibility to estimate staffing needs, hire qualified individuals who are a good fit, and set those individuals up for success. If that process fails it is not YOUR fault. 4. You are not defined by your Job. You are defined by your experiences. Own it, it will be your previous employers loss and your future employers gain.

When you stop looking at any one employer for "stability" and realize that your true career stability lies in YOU, you won't side eye yourself if you're laid off 2 or more times within 1 year. You won't feel obligated to stay in jobs that aren't working for you for x amount of time because "I don't want to look like a job hopper." Stop it. Layoffs are business decisions. Since January 2024, over 100,000 people have been OR will be laid off this year. They don't care if you've worked 1 day or 10 years. You are your #1 business. Stay ready to leave a job and get a new job at all times. Don't get too emotionally attached to jobs that are yours at firms you don't own. You may like a job. You may love a job. But you are not THEIR job. YOU are your #1 job. Always value you over them. Need Career Coaching? Or a Standout Resume? Contact Me #beyourbestbrand #beyourbestcareerarchitect #resumes

#JobSeekers we work with are many things including #resilient; bouncing back from layoffs, setbacks and life challenges. Forging ahead towards success. Today we celebrate a #SecondChance job seeker who worked with East Cascades Career Development Coordinator Joe M.. As Mike shares in his own words. "Rebuilding Hope: How Strategic Support Transformed My Job Search Journey Searching for work as a previous adult in custody can feel isolating and frustrating, often leading to rejections despite hard-won efforts to reintegrate into society. After facing numerous setbacks and low-wage jobs, I sought support from WorkSource and partnered to develop a strategic approach to job hunting. Together, we crafted a compelling resume & cover letter, prepared for interviews, and presented documentation highlighting my journey towards redemption. Ultimately, our persistence paid off, and I secured a job that offers outstanding benefits, a livable wage, and a chance to contribute positively to our community. Joe's unwavering support and innovative strategies made the difference to regaining my economic standing and my return to influencing our community in a positive way." We all have setbacks, backgrounds (whether documented or not) and challenges to navigate. #WorkSourceOregon believes in second chances, redemption and opportunity. We believe in elevating human potential. We serve both our job seeking and #employer customers by making meaningful connections, collaborating in strategic outcomes and helping both to achieve their professional goals.
