I was a guest as a media trainer on #ZTN’s current affairs show, @TheFourthEstate, last night from 1800 to 1830. The show explored #African-centered journalism and #decolonising the media. During the programme, I spoke about the #Ubuntu concept and its potential to aid in the growth of African media. I argued that the historical roots of Ubuntu may be traced to African moral philosophy, which tackles the central question of what it means to be human. I argued that the concept of Ubuntu had the power to move media away from combative and sensationalist approaches and toward a more solution-focused approach based on #mutual understanding and #cooperation.

Silence is not an option..
Silence is not an option after the devastation of the Palestinian press corps during this war. Leaders from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) joined dozens of attendees at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy in a moment of silence and solidarity with journalists in Gaza. CPJ is grateful that so many participated to let Palestinian journalists know they are not alone. We stand together in solidarity. #NotATarget

During my analysis of the current Middle Eastern conflict, I observed a concerning trend in information accessibility. Major search engines, media organizations, and U.S. government entities appear to promote a singular narrative to American audiences. For instance, searching for “Lebanon news” often does not yield results from Lebanese news agencies; instead, one must specifically request this information. Additionally, the results tend to favor outlets that align with the dominant rhetoric being propagated.

Very interesting article by Vox. The intelligence community appears to be prioritizing conformity to prevailing narratives over objective analysis. This bias is evident in the handling of recent events in Afghanistan, Ukraine and Israel, where reports seem to function more as propaganda than unbiased insights. Similar to the Asch conformity experiment, this trend leads to flawed decision-making by policymakers and creates a negative feedback loop that entrenches groupthink. The stakes are too high to continue down this path.

Parts of my intervention on CNN Brasil about Israel and Palestine, linking it to the recent escalation coming from Iran. When we discuss geopolitics and human rights more than superficially, we often fear being considered “partial” in a discussion. I overcame this fear. I would rather replace the word “partiality” for what it actually is, in my case: an interpretation of reality through rationality, criticism, observation, comparison and, most of all, humanity. Thank you once more CNN Brasil for the trust.
