Sidra Khalid 18G, 40 Under Forty honoree, reflects on her experience as a young college student at Emory, ready to learn what it takes to be successful.
“At 20, I was eager to have everything planned out and to know exactly what I needed to do to be successful. Ultimately, I've learned that life rarely follows a linear path, and it's okay not to have everything figured out when you’re younger.”

It's all about serving the students. We work together with students, who help us understand how higher education needs to evolve to serve them better. We pilot their solutions and scale those that make the impact we all seek. Asking students how to improve higher education is a surprisingly radical approach to their success. #REP4#highereducation#studentcentered#studentsuccess

Do I have to collaborate with local and state leaders?
100% YES!
We encourage you to build meaningful relationships with your city councilors, mayors, and state representatives.
These leaders are often just as eager as you are to retain local talent and solve community problems.
Even if you're shy or don't consider yourself a political person, know that local leaders want to know what you're doing and how they can work alongside you.
They might even present your class with real-world problems to solve, turning your classroom into the town’s (or even state) solution center.
And by working together, you and your students can tackle real issues that impact your community.
🚨 The deadline to join our fellowship is TODAY 🚨
Apply now to transform your classroom into a center of real-world problem-solving.
Have you collaborated with local leaders before? What was your experience like?

Dear #Choir,
It’s time to talk about Bl@ck + H@rv@rd.
Now, I know a little something about B+H.
More than a little, in fact.
Beyond my lived experience, I spent three years researching the past, present & future of the HBS African American Student Union. I’ve published research in my edited volume, journals, podcasts, webinars, dedicated HBR features and even a multimedia library exhibit.
But you wouldn’t need to read or view any of that to know that something about B+H uniquely troubles the insecure and oppressive forces among us.
There’s a lore that has been veiled in satire (did anyone else see “Soul Man”??) but it’s really not a joking matter.
From B+H emerges a powerful force extending from DuBois to the White House to the Supreme Court … and if one would unfreeze the frame of Jan 2 @ watch the whole docudrama, we’d see a plot line that consistently & pointedly 🎯⬛️ prophetic brilliance using Blk Hvd as proxy for the battle of merit (myth) v privilege (hidden) v disadvantage (obvious).
Not by happenstance, I carefully placed myself within Blk ldrshp incubators in each era of my career. UVA in the 90s. U Mich in the 90s. HBS in the 00s. Places where Blk leaders & allies cared enough to help grow more Blk leaders like me. And not surprisingly, each uni has been attacked - not because the coordinated efforts weren’t working. Because they actually did!
But the attacks were always too late. The momentum has grown through generations and will not be stymied. There are more presidents, judges, provosts, deans, donors, chiefs with brains and brave, caring hearts among us, and even more to come.
Bl@ck H@rv@rd, I 🤎 you deep.
You’ve poured into me when I was mostly alone.
Mostly.
Not entirely.
Because of the alliances we share.
The communities we build.
The bonds we solidify.
The fear is not ours to hold in Cambridge, Charlottesville, Chapel Hill, Ann Arbor …
We are #enough#almostfree

Doesn’t it feel like all we talk about these days is AI? It tops every agenda now – from Davos to Dayton. Yes, we need to take it seriously and prepare: jobs will go away and many more will change – but how?
As technology does more of the work on our behalf – for better or worse – distinctly human capabilities like creativity, critical thinking, clarity of expression, and caring for human experience will increasingly become the “hard” skills.
Are we ready?
Thanks to Michael Elliott and Emily Cameron Griffen for having me back to Amherst College (seriously, twist my arm…) to share a perspective on how a Liberal Arts education will prepare today's students for leadership in the future – in careers, yes – and also in life and as citizens of an increasingly complex society.
At the first-ever Sophomore Summit, Anne-Claire C. Roesch '08 spoke to the class of 2026 about the value of the liberal arts for their future careers and lives. She joined President Elliott for Between 2 Mammoths to talk about what she shared with the students and her continued involvement with the College as an alumna.

33% of the Georgia Tech experience is funded by donors like you. That's a third of graduates from each school, a third of the campus footprint, a third of the time students spend in the classroom, and a third of the impact on the world. Last year, Georgia Tech conferred 11,995 esteemed Georgia Tech degrees. Without you, it might only have been 8,037. Give to finish the semester, to expand access through scholarships, to create world leaders.
