Detroit built the world's first concrete-paved road, but it wasn't just for cars! Did you know that the Good Roads Movement – a 19th century push by groups like the League of American Bicyclists for paved roads for BIKES – was the real impetus for the smooth roads we now ride and drive on? I learned this and so much more when I worked with MoGo Detroit to tell the story of their innovative non-profit bike share program, a part of the Downtown Detroit Partnership. In the process, we captured the stories of their key stakeholders as well as the energy and excitement of their first-ever community fundraising event, MoGo-a-GoGo. We turned those testimonials into evergreen video content that I hope will serve them for years – and hopefully drive more Detroiters – and suburbanites too! – out onto two wheels. 🚴♀️ Back on the bike 🚴♀️ : Techbikers starts tomorrow and this time we start in Berlin and cycle 400km to Hamburg. For me its a special route this time as we cycle through my old home where I spent the first 12 years of my life (the city I grew up is called Ludwigslust or LuLu) and I haven’t been there for quite some time. And again the Techbikers are supporting the World Bicycle Relief which is a nonprofit organization mobilizing people through the power of bicycles. WBR provides small communities in rural Africa with bicycles - the Buffalo Bike - to help them overcome huge distances. By making use of these bikes e.g. school children can make their way to school, people have access to health care and to economy. Some facts from the WBR 2023 Impact Report : ->Students’ punctuality increased and they missed fewer days of school  ->The time that students spent traveling to school was reduced by up to 44% ->Access to healthcare improved, with travel time reduced by as much as 50% I believe in the Power of Bicycles and now, here's where you come in - to help us power our pedals and bring positive change to those who need it. 🚲 🌍 You can support my fundraising here 🙏 ->

"Our students have made it clear that they want our school to be more sustainable, and our staff are more likely than ever to invest in clean forms of transport," said Hampstead School Head Matthew Sadler, as he unveiled new on-site facilities for electric vehicles. The whole school community is thrilled that being able to access the government's Workplace Charging Scheme and combine that funding with a generous donation from ICTS UK & IRELAND has made the installation of four EV charging points possible. Kamal Hashi represented the security services company to present a novelty cheque to our students Labeeb and Grace, celebrating a reduction in the school's carbon footprint by encouraging more sustainable commuting. #ThinkBigWorkHardBeKind

Sharing some good news to wrap up the week: DENSO team members in Guelph, Ont., have assembled and donated 41 bicycles to the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition (GNSC) as part of the company’s Build-a-Bike program. The initiative, which also includes helmets with each bike, aims to support local families during the holiday season. John Klassen, president of DENSO’s Guelph facility, spoke about the collaborative effort behind the program. “Whether we’re building an automotive product or a bike for a family, our focuses on quality and safety always shine through,” he said. “I’d like to thank our DENSO team, GNSC, and Grand River Cycle for making this a meaningful opportunity to help the community.” Read the full story at https://lnkd.in/gUQMeU8z #HR #CorporateSocialResponsibility #Volunteers #CSR #Giving

Only 9 percent of high school students pursuing careers in the trades, skilled labor is in short supply. Wolverine has assembled a team to champion these important jobs by starting Project Bootstrap to advocate for the skilled trades. Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, Project Bootstrap works to break down common misconceptions around the skilled trades industry, while supporting and inspiring the next generation of skilled trades workers in effort to close the trades gap. So far, Wolverine has donated over $2 million to advance the skilled trades. Partnerships Matter. What began as a simple Christmas program to help school children over the holidays has blossomed into something extraordinary. Community for Kids (C4K) is now a year-round lifeline, offering support through food drives, a Birthday Present Program, the Backpack Program, and so much more to those who need it most. For 7 amazing years, 400 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Ltd and Barrie Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Ltd. have proudly partnered with C4K to ensure local students, who face financial hardships, are equipped with backpacks full of school supplies – setting them up for success from day one. This incredible initiative, known as CRAM THE RAM, is the sole driver behind C4K’s ability to keep this program alive. When this effort started 7 years ago, the goal was to fill 50 backpacks. Fast forward to 2024, and we’ve not only surpassed that but filled 217 backpacks this year alone, bringing our total to an astounding 1,053 backpacks since the program's inception. Yet, every year, the need grows as more families find themselves in financial crisis. It’s true what they say – it takes a village to raise a child, and we’re beyond grateful for our community partners who stepped up in such a big way this year: · The Barrie BayCats dedicated a whole night to the drive, filling an entire pickup truck with supplies. ·  LME, the incredible networking group, and The Barrie Jeep Club both hosted donation events that made a huge impact. · South End Walmart’s management team and TPH in Barrie offered 50% off backpacks, helping us stretch our funds even further to support more students. We couldn’t do it without this amazing community. We’re proud to have supported Equi-Power Central Scotland RDA, a Riding for the Disabled Association group that provides therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities to people with disabilities. Facing rising costs and outdated tools, Equi-Power turned to us for help reducing expenses and freeing up time to focus on their participants and volunteers. With the expertise of our #SkilledVolunteer, Toby Bryson, we helped Equi-Power migrate from Google Workspace to Microsoft Charity Suite, saving £700 annually. As Amanda from Equi-Power shared, “That £700 is huge for us—it’s the equivalent of seven weeks of care for one of our horses or 30 sacks of horse feed.” This project wasn’t just about cutting costs, it was a step towards sustainability and growing Equi-Power’s impact. From day one our triage team, specifically Jean Ferguson, worked closely with Amanda to understand her needs and ensure the right volunteer with the right skills was matched to the project. Toby’s dedication and expertise made the transition seamless, allowing the charity to adopt new systems quickly and efficiently. “This has been way more than just a tech update for us. It’s a huge step towards sustainability and being able to grow our impact,” said Amanda. Last month, three students from Lake Washington Institute of Technology picked up a donated Cummins ISL9 engine and Allison Hybrid EV Drive transmission from Community Transit to bring back to their school.
