Senior Research Scientist | Implementation | Program Evaluation | Qualitative | Mixed Methods | Project Leadership
Thrilled to share our latest publication in the Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment: "What Happens After the Funding Ends? A Qualitative Sustainability Investigation of Emergency Department-Based Peer Support Programs." Alongside my colleagues Monte Staton, Justin Bell, Alan B. McGuire, and Lisa D. Taylor, we explored the sustainability of peer support programs implemented in Indiana’s emergency departments as part of the Opioid State Targeted Response initiative. Our findings reveal the critical interplay of factors impacting the longevity of these peer support interventions post-funding, including: The importance of securing alternative funding sources. The value of strong partnerships and organizational support. Adapting program structures to meet local needs and changing resources. This research contributes vital insights for policymakers, healthcare providers, and funders dedicated to sustainable approaches for opioid use disorder interventions in emergency care settings. Check it out here for more details: https://lnkd.in/gGDfYgDv Thank you to everyone involved in making this research possible! #PeerSupport #OpioidCrisis #BehavioralHealth #SubstanceUseDisorder #Sustainability #HealthcareResearch #AddictionRecovery #PublicHealth

Helping therapists integrate EMDR and Psychedelic Integration Therapy in their practice — Wounded USMC to Founder & Licensed Therapist — EMDR Certified Therapist & Approved Consultant — MAPS Trained — Supervisor
As therapists, we hold a deep responsibility to ensure that psychedelic therapies are not only effective but ethically sound. With the growing interest in psychedelic-assisted therapies, it’s crucial that we uphold the highest standards of informed consent, client safety, and ethical boundaries. Whether it’s integrating a psychedelic experience or using a harm reduction approach, protecting client well-being should be at the core of our practice. Without a strong ethical foundation, even the most powerful therapeutic tools can become risky for both clients and therapists. If you’re a licensed therapist considering psychedelic harm reduction and integration therapy (PHRI/HRIT), my Ethical Due Diligence Paper will give you the confidence and framework to navigate these therapies ethically and in compliance with state guidelines. 👉 Check the comments for a link to download the paper for free.

"Mom, are you okay?" // “No, I'm very dizzy..." Working together to prevent morbidity and mortality is an emerging theme in this series of posts celebrating National Interprofessional Healthcare Month. Today, I want to shine a light on interprofessional teamwork to prevent and - when necessary - rectify drug interactions. Related resources are available through the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There are, of course, numerous commercially available products, as well. This illustration comes from "BARRIERS: An Illustrated Case Study," where a lack of culturally competent mental healthcare results in a serious adverse drug event. Fortunately for this patient, a primary care team supported by an interpreter is able to quickly correct the issue. I know my #IPE colleagues across the health professions will have experienced similar encounters during their careers, and I hope some of you will share them here. Many thanks to the talented Casey Gallimore, who co-authored the story, and of course to George Folz, whose creativity is on full display with this dizziness-inducing work of art. From: Wenthur CJ, Gallimore CE, Zorek JA. Chapter 12: Mental Health. In: Zorek JA. Interprofessional Practice in Pharmacy: Featuring Illustrated Case Studies. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill; 2021:255-273.
