Having a 'regular doctor' – a model known as continuity of care – could reduce doctor workload while improving patient health 🩺 Researchers from the University of Cambridge and INSEAD analysed data from more than 10 million consultations in 381 English primary care practices over 11 years. When patients saw their regular doctor for a consultation, they waited on average 18% longer between visits, compared to patients who saw a different doctor. The productivity benefit of continuity of care was larger for older patients, those with multiple chronic conditions, and individuals with mental health conditions. Studies show that patients also have better outcomes when they have more adaptive mindsets about their treatments (“this treatment will be effective”), their bodies (“my body is strong and capable”), their illnesses (“my pain is manageable”), and their care team (“I am in good hands”). Patient mindset can be influenced by the attitudes of and encouragement given by care teams (including professionals like Physical Therapists.) When it comes to patient financial clearance at sleep and neurology centers, automation is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. A recent survey by AKASA stipulates a widespread adoption of automation in revenue operations, with 74% of respondents already using it and another 80% of those not currently using it planning to join the bandwagon by the end of 2025. The survey fielded responses from more than 450 chief financial officers and revenue cycle leaders at hospitals and health systems across the United States through the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s (HFMA) Pulse Survey program.
