Automatically, the issue is described as a mental health problem—much like the Alaska pilot who tried to shut down the engines while in the jump seat. But here’s the challenge: our collective ignorance leads us to use blanket definitions and descriptions that fail to explain what we are experiencing. Consider this: 80% of people are in burnout, experiencing poor mental wellbeing, but they do not have a mental health issue. They are not suffering from a mental illness or disorder. The same applies to pilots who are said to be facing mental health issues requiring therapy. That’s not their problem. According to the World Health Organization, burnout is not a mental medical issue but a workplace phenomenon with shared symptoms of depression, stress, and anxiety. When overwhelmed, people may behave unpredictably. The real issue is our refusal to understand and address the problem. It’s not inherently complex; humans make it seem complex as an excuse to do nothing. Much to think about. David Howell John Franklin
After Terrorism, Mental health is the next disruptive element to be dealt with by Aviation and the stake holders for smooth and safe operation of flights. All the Passengers on an Envoy Air as American Eagle flight from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (KDFW) to the city of Monterrey (MTY), Nuevo León, were forced to evacuate this day after a passenger created a disturbing environment by stripping off his clothes and running to the Galley area. The passenger on Flight AA3434, operated by an Embraer E175LR aircraft, did not cooperate as the co-passengers tried to calm him down so they could continue with the flight, so all the passengers had to deplane, leading to a delay in departure of the flight on 23 November. 🎥ABCNoticias #airlines #passenger

It is with a heavy heart that I reflect on the recent tragic midair collision near Washington, DC, involving an American Airlines passenger plane and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. This devastating incident has resulted in the loss of 67 lives, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. The collision occurred as the PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 jet was landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the collision with the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, leading to both aircraft crashing into the Potomac River. The search and rescue operation, involving multiple fire and police agencies, has been challenging due to rough conditions, high winds, and low visibility. This incident underscores the importance of rigorous aviation safety protocols and the need for continuous improvement in our industry. It is a stark reminder that the mix of commercial and military aircraft in busy airspaces requires meticulous coordination and communication. As we await the findings of the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation, which could take up to 18 months, it is crucial that we do not politicize aviation safety. Instead, we must focus on learning from this tragedy to prevent similar accidents in the future. Let us honor the memory of those lost by committing to the highest standards of safety and vigilance in aviation. Together, we can work towards a safer future for all. #AviationSafety #AviationExpert #SafetyFirst #Tragedy #AviationIndustry #AirlineIndustry #AviationAccident #SafetyInvestigation #EmergencyResponse #AviationSafety #AircraftCollision #AviationNews #SafetyStandards #RegulatoryCompliance #FlightSafety

Black Hawk Down: A tragic Accident, A Lost of Innocent Lives I am deeply saddened by the tragic mid-air collision near Reagan National Airport involving an American Airlines flight and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. This devastating accident resulted in the loss of all 67 individuals on board both aircraft. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims. The sudden and profound loss of so many lives is a tragedy that touches us all. As reported, the American Airlines flight was en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C., when it collided with the Black Hawk helicopter during its approach to Runway 33. The helicopter, based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, was conducting a training mission at the time of the incident. In the aftermath of this tragedy, nearly 300 first responders have been tirelessly working under challenging conditions to recover the victims and investigate the cause of the collision. Their dedication and bravery in the face of such adversity deserve our deepest gratitude. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the inherent risks faced by both military personnel and civilians in aviation. It underscores the critical importance of rigorous safety protocols and continuous vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future. As the investigation unfolds, I hope that we can come together as a community to support those affected and to honor the memories of the departed. May we find strength in unity and solace in shared compassion during this difficult time. A sobering incident between an American Airlines jet plane and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter last night, condolences to the families who lost their loved one’s, this hits close to home. As with many people who often travel for work, little thought is sometimes given to the possibility of a mid-air disaster with domestic travel onboard major US Carriers. While not impossible, at times, the popular phrase "it’s safer to travel in an aircraft than in a car" is over-assured. While there was nothing any passenger could have done to influence a different outcome, still it rings true to always be vigilant and aware of the risks we are often exposed to in our day-to-day activities. While the probability is low, the risk is always there! Hopefully, the NTSB investigation is swift and conclusive, bringing some closure to the families and lessons learnt to avoid future incidents like these. https://lnkd.in/eVDXkEmD

Aviation partner Peter Neenan spoke to Yahoo News as reports emerged regarding the collision between an American Airlines flight 5342 and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. Peter explained that “a long and detailed investigation” will follow the tragedy: “It is too early to speculate on why the aircraft hit each other, but they will certainly look at the role of air traffic control, TCAS and the crew for the aircraft… as part of the investigation, changes could be made to TCAS, air traffic control or any other function.” Read the full article including additional commentary from Peter: https://lnkd.in/e7ue3nNE #Aviation #AmericanAirlines #AmericanAirlinesFlight5342 #WashingtonDCplaneCrash
