Safety starts with your mindset, which is why every morning each of our field crews fill out an individual FOCUS (Focus, Observe, Check, Use, Sign) form to help them identify and mitigate safety risks. One way to mitigate risks, as apprentice Trever Sleight shares, is to make sure you're using the right tool for the job. #nationalconstructionsafetyweek #ConstructionSafety #HuntElectric #SafetyWeek2024

Ensuring that training keeps up with the latest developments is vital and that includes the tools you use to delivery that training, for that reason we have already updated our drop test and training tower to make things better. The main change has been moving the main attachment beams so it now allows the majority of people to be able to stand upright beneath them. This gives more room for candidates to move around so it's less cramped with 10 people, including up to 2 trainers up there. We have also ensured that we now have sockets that will allow the use of davits from #genesi #reid #sala / #3msafety so we can train on which ever system provides a truly fit for purpose solution. The beam change gives clearer access for davit use but also makes testing our load arresters easier now we have 3 x10 ton attachments aligned over our 3 hatches. With a ladder system to access the main deck which also has an extension post to show candidates how ladders that terminate at platform height can still have a safe system installed that allows a safe disconnection, we are able to access the platform safely. None of these things are without cost but they are vital to demonstrate correct use and understanding that creates a fit for purpose training package to deliver a competent user. What skilled trade has the potential to do all 3 things... Save lives, save property & earn 6 figures a year? We #partnered with Inspect Point to shed some light on the sprinkler fitter/fire protection industry. An industry that is MASSIVE and has a lot of potential for someone who wants to build a career that plays a crucial part for their community. Every building you walk into, has some sort of fire protection system; sprinkler systems, alarm systems, fire extinguishers... I remember my dad telling me & my brothers, as we got older, to check out the sprinkler fitter trade apprenticeship. Not giving it much thought, I was seeking more of an adrenaline filled occupation; like becoming a lineman. He has been a pipe fitter at paper/lumber mill for 20+ years and has seen how much the sprinkler fitters do. Now, as I get older and with Blueprint we see the potential of these trades and the importance they have on our infrastructure. Just like most other trades, you become a journeyman or master of that trade, you want be your own boss, start your own company...there is that potential! That is the great thing about becoming a skilled tradesman. Become part of the sprinkler fitter trade, build a career that has potential to save lives & property! Learn more about the sprinkler fitter trade here 👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/gJuDanSf #bluecollar #education #sprinklerfitter #career #fireprotection

"Hello, I'm Victoria, a 27-year-old passionate about making a difference in the world of safety. My journey hasn't been straightforward. I started at TVET college, studying a course that, although simple, didn't truly ignite my passion. I then worked as an administrator, but soon realized that I needed something more - a role that would allow me to interact with people, be outdoors, and ensure safety protocols are in place. Growing up, I was inspired by my dad, a welder who worked from home. Although I didn't follow in his footsteps, I developed a passion for ensuring safety and well-being. After trying out different paths, I discovered my true calling as a Safety Officer. I've recently completed my Samtrac Level 5 course, and I'm excited to start this new chapter. I'm still willing to learn from those who have been in the industry of safety. I'm committed to doing more research, learning every day, and seeking training opportunities on the side. For now, I'm not focused on salary or financial gain. What I need is to gain experience, learn from others, and understand the intricacies of the job. I know things have been tougher on my side to find my career path. I didn't even know about safety courses when I was in high school, and career exhibitions during that time didn't even mention this field. My message to anyone who's still searching for their passion: don't give up! Keep exploring, learning, and pushing forward. You got this! #SafetyOfficer #CareerJourney #Passion #Determination #Inspiration"

I have candidates fly from other countries or drive for many hours on end to travel to the North East to sit courses with me. When I ask why, they say because they know they can get an interactive course where the tutor will actually want to help them learn. I won't ignore their opinions or circumstances at work and I will try to find the relevance in the criteria for each of them individually. Just to mention here that I am looking at ways to bring my training around to other parts of the UK. These candidates are a rare quality in this industry and many of them are inspired to carry on with their learning, so they initially look at the ladder to climb. Level 4 design, HNC/HND - is it worth it for them? Sometimes what they are not doing is looking sideways. At other Level 3 or even Level 2 opportunities that will actually put them in a better position to excel and provide clients with a quality service. For example courses in PLC's, Arc Flash awareness, NEBOSH, NDT (thermography to ISO 18434), duty holder, fixings, fire alarm systems, compartmentation, event power and so on.... I offer the same advice to new apprentices when we hold gateway ready meetings. It's important to celebrate the achievement of completing an apprenticeship. But it is now at this point, that what you choose to do will determine what quality an electrician you are going to become.

The tragic loss of Wilson Price in Wellington is a somber reminder of the inherent risks faced by linemen and other workers in the electric power industry. Safety is always the top priority, and incidents like this highlight the importance of rigorous training for newer, less experienced workers and adherence to safety regulations and policies. OSHA’s guidelines for overhead line work provide essential safety standards that can help prevent accidents like these. https://lnkd.in/gEKNtX6z

Just one video this week as the trainee course completed the third week with BA. This week they have mainly been completing BA wears in a variety of situations ahead of assessment next week. However we have spent some time looking at fire behaviour including this session discussing trench effect, and the ferocity of flames when the trench is enclosed. Understanding how fire behaves is a crucial skill for firefighters allowing them to predict development and select the best approach to extinguishing.
