👷♀️ Meet Karen Brown, one of our inspiring articulated dump truck (ADT) drivers. She’s from Suffolk and works with a local contractor, Blackwell Earthmoving. Her journey began when she saw big machines on site and thought: “I want to do that!” And she made it happen! At Sizewell C, we want a gender-balanced and inclusive workforce. We support the target of increasing the percentage of women in the nuclear sector from 22% to 40% by 2030. So far, we have made progress in these areas: ✅ The project’s leadership team is now 60% female ✅ Our apprenticeship recruitment has been 50% female since the programme began in 2021 ✅ Our employed workforce is currently over 40% female 💬 Karen says: “Working at Sizewell C has built so much of my confidence. My experience as a woman here has been fantastic. I would highly encourage any young girls to give it a try — there’s so much more opportunity and acceptance now in the construction industry.” Feel inspired by Karen's enthusiasm? Great Post and something GS Plant training is trying to promote and support in 2025. All ages of Girls/Women should be encouraged to get involved and i feel plant operating is starting point for everyone as you get to learn the way sites work and how communication works between contractors/trades and a firm base to move up the ranks if that appeals. My wife is 55 years and will probably be one of the oldest Newbie ADT drivers out there (assuming she passes her test,no favours even if she is the boss lol) and most certainly the smallest at 4.11 and 3/4"s might need a step ladder to reach the first step mind. But where theres a will theres a way.
