On this President's Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the legacies of our past leaders. According to a recent survey by C-Span, former President Obama has been ranked as the 12th best president in US history. The ranking was based on factors such as public persuasion, moral authority, equal justice for all, relationship with Congress, international relations, and more. The top 5 presidents were Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Interestingly, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan were also part of the top 10. It's worth noting that the legacy of presidents is best measured by the lens of history, the passage of time, and reflection upon the times in which they governed. The top 5 governed during periods of war or crisis, while those who governed during stability and peace did not rank as high. Who are your top 5 presidents? A wise observation! The founding fathers of the United States of America indeed envisioned a democratic system where citizens would have the power to choose their leaders. They understood the importance of responsible leadership and the impact it has on the nation's future. As you mentioned, choosing the next president wisely is crucial for the country's progress and prosperity. It's essential for citizens to engage in informed discussions, evaluate candidates' policies and character, and exercise their right to vote. By doing so, they can help shape the country's future and honor the founding fathers' legacy.

Teddy Roosevelt lived an extraordinary life, filled with many challenges (lost mother and first wife on the same day/year) and many triumphs (Ranch owner, NYC Police Commissioner, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Led the Rough Riders in Cuba in the Army, NY Governor, VP and President of the United States, Conservationist). He authored more than 40 books and opened many national parks across America. Most of all, he was known as a consistent man of integrity, always following his beliefs and promises. Two lessons for us all: 1. We will be best known in this life for our character. Develop and lead well in character. 2. Make the most of your time on Earth. If President Roosevelt can accomplish what he did, why can’t we accomplish more in what we are called to do in our own lives? Discipline is key to character building and time management. One second, one hour, and one day at a time. Side note: If you want a deep read on the life of T.R., I highly recommend the trilogy from Edmund Morris (Volume 2 pictures below)
