Check out this Original Research Article in the latest edition of American Urological Association's JU Open Plus entitled "Effect of 3-Dimensional, Virtual Reality Models for Surgical Planning of Robotic Partial Nephrectomy on Surgical Outcomes: Qualitative Data from a Randomized Clinical Trial" here: https://bit.ly/3SJq3vT In a prior randomized study, Ceevra 3D model use was shown to significantly reduce operative time, clamp time, estimated blood loss, and postoperative hospital stay compared to a control group. This article reports on qualitative data from that study, and shows that using Ceevra 3D models increased surgeon confidence, aided surgeons to localize tumors, and led surgeons to modify their preop surgical plans 30% of the time. When surgeons changed their preop plans, reductions in operative time, clamp time, and blood loss were even more significant. For more information on Ceevra visit our website https://bit.ly/3SJq4zX to learn how our cutting-edge 3D imaging is reshaping surgical planning. #Urologoy #AUA #3D #Imaging #VirtualReality #SurgicalPlanning #AI

Comparative Overview of Image Intensifier Tubes and Flat Panel Detectors in Medical Imaging Medical imaging has evolved significantly over the years, with advancements in technology paving the way for improved diagnostic capabilities. Two crucial components in the realm of radiology are the Image Intensifier Tube (IIT) and the Flat Panel Detector (FPD). Both play vital roles in capturing and enhancing medical images, yet they differ in their technologies and applications. Image Intensifier Tube (IIT): The Image Intensifier Tube has long been a staple in fluoroscopy and certain radiographic applications. This technology works by converting X-ray photons into visible light, amplifying the intensity of the incoming radiation. The intensified image is then captured by a camera or eyepiece. Pros: 🪄 Real-Time Imaging: IITs excel in capturing dynamic, real-time images, making them suitable for procedures that demand continuous monitoring. 🪄 Cost-Effective: Compared to some alternatives, IITs can be a cost-effective solution for facilities with budget constraints. Cons: 📉Spatial Resolution: IITs may exhibit lower spatial resolution compared to some modern alternatives, impacting image clarity. 📉 Image Distortion: The amplification process in IITs can introduce distortions in the image. Flat Panel Detector (FPD): Flat Panel Detectors represent a more contemporary approach to medical imaging. Instead of using a scintillator and an intensifier, FPDs directly convert X-ray photons into electronic signals. Pros: 🪄 High Resolution: FPDs typically deliver higher spatial resolution, resulting in sharper and more detailed images. 🪄 Efficiency: Direct conversion of X-rays into electronic signals enhances the efficiency of image acquisition, reducing the need for additional components. Cons: 📉 Limited Dynamic Range: While FPDs excel in static imaging, they may face challenges in capturing dynamic scenes with the same precision as IITs. Choosing between an Image Intensifier Tube and a Flat Panel Detector involves weighing the specific requirements of the medical application. Image Intensifier Tubes remain relevant for dynamic procedures where real-time imaging is paramount, while Flat Panel Detectors offer superior spatial resolution and efficiency, particularly in static imaging scenarios. Novel concept, turn the lights on to see better! This was true in my machine vision days and is especially true when talking about Artificial Intelligence in the surgical space. If the AI doesn't have a good image, how can the algorithms make reliable decisions? EndoGlow Tissue Reveal Technology enhances images, enabling AI (and surgeons) to make more informed decisions.
In recent news, NVIDIA and Johnson & Johnson have announced a collaboration to develop new AI applications tailored for surgical procedures. This partnership highlights the increasing focus on AI applications in the field of surgery. While much attention is often directed towards the software algorithms and processing power in AI discussions, it's crucial not to overlook the importance of high-quality cameras and optimal illumination in enabling effective AI systems, particularly those analyzing visual data. In surgical contexts, where AI relies heavily on visual input for critical decision-making, EndoGlow’s Tissue Reveal Technology (TRT) plays a pivotal role. By providing fluorescent transillumination for optimal illumination, TRT enhances images captured by laparoscopic and robotic systems, thereby empowering AI algorithms to make more informed and robust decisions. #AI #AISurgery #laparoscopicsurgery #roboticsurgery #machinevision #endoglow #medicalinnovation #fluorescence #surgicalinnovation #fluorescentguidedsurgery
