Long post alert! 🚨 Gratitude incoming! 🙌🏽 Attending the 9th annual ColorComm, Inc. conference in Los Angeles last month was an empowering and transformative experience for me as a Black millennial woman working in communications, specifically in employee experience and DEI. This was my second year attending, and the energy and enthusiasm were just as palpable as before. The conference brought together hundreds of women of color, who gathered to share insights, build connections, and celebrate our collective achievements. Over the course of three days, I immersed myself in a wealth of knowledge, learning from industry leaders and peers about the latest trends and challenges in our field. The networking opportunities were abundant and invaluable. I connected with so many brilliant individuals—potential clients, new friends, mentors and mentees —who are just as passionate about driving change and making an impact. These connections have the potential to shape not only my career but also various sectors and industries, as we continue to support and uplift one another in our professional journeys. The sessions were not only informative but also empowering, offering actionable insights and fresh perspectives that directly resonate with my work in employee experience and DEI. While the conference covered a wide array of topics, the sessions that aligned with my focus provided valuable strategies and ideas that I’m eager to apply in my role. This personalized learning experience reinforced the importance of continuous growth in these areas. The speakers and panelists offered practical strategies for overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities, reminding us that our work is vital and impactful. Beyond the professional growth, the conference provided a sense of community and belonging that is often rare in corporate spaces. It was inspiring to see so many women of color excelling in their fields, leading discussions, and being recognized for their contributions. The camaraderie and support were a powerful reminder of the importance of spaces like ColorComm, where our voices and experiences are celebrated and amplified. As I reflect on my time at the conference, I am filled with gratitude for the relationships I built, the lessons I learned, and the renewed sense of purpose I gained. I look forward to leveraging these connections and insights as I continue to advocate for inclusive workplaces and creating meaningful employee experiences. #colorcommconference #employeeexperience #communications #womenincommunications #Blackwomenincommunications

Last week, the Instituto team aligned on the future of our work, learned about our organization's budget together, celebrated staff, and then ended the week by the pool. 🏊🏽♀️ Staff retreats are an amazing way to exercise collective learning and alignment. In a hybrid work structure, a lot of the amazing work each individual contributes to a team can easily get lost behind a computer screen. In our praxis of Black Feminism, we believe in honoring the humanity of the team, having time for rest and recharging, and getting aligned on our mission and vision while dreaming of the future. What do you think about team retreats? Has your organization hosted one? Let us know! 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 #ourinstituto

🌈 Event Recap: Fireside Chat with TD 🌈 We were thrilled to host our first Fireside Chat with TD, where we had the pleasure of welcoming Sharon Chung (she/her/hers) and Jason Q Wang as our guest speakers. During the event, they shared their inspiring career journeys and offered invaluable advice on building strong professional networks and inspiring others for the community. Key Takeaways: - Making an impact doesn’t always require focused, targeted actions. We have more power to create change than we often realize. - Our visibility as queer professionals in corporate spaces can inspire others and open new opportunities for the community. - Simply being our authentic selves is a powerful act of empowerment and leadership. - Believe in your story and share it—you never know how it might inspire or help someone else. - Networking can open doors to new and unexpected opportunities. - Small talk and finding common ground are effective icebreakers that help build closer relationships. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sharon, Jason, and TD for supporting this event and sharing such valuable insights. This fireside chat reinforced the importance of inclusion and networking in shaping a more supportive professional landscape for everyone. We look forward to hosting more impactful fireside chats and continuing to build a stronger, more inclusive community for all!
