As a founder or CEO it is important to build the right level of senior expertise and capabilities into your business. Resource and capability planning are essential when you are looking to up-level your business through each of your growth phases. Leveraging the years of experience a senior person can bring to the table can give you the competitive advantage and help you avoid costly mistakes, and budget needn't be a limiting factor for accessing that experience. The table below compares FTE and non-FTE models for getting the senior support you need for your business. Anything you would add to the table? #leadership #resourceplanning #capabilityplanning

  • Table comparing FTE and Non-FTE models for onboarding senior resources.

The far left hand column has two options for FTE: permanent and interim leader. And 3 options for non-FTE: consultant, advisor or mentor, and Fractional leader.

A permanent FTE takes full ownership of a functional area with long term commitment. This is a salaried role.

An interim leader keeps the business function going for a specific period of time.

A consultant brings answers to a specific question but has no ownership of implementing the solution.

An advisor or mentor asks questions and provides guidance for strategy and decision making, bringing clarity and a different perspective.

A fractional leader takes full ownership like a permanent FTE but works for a reduced number of days. You are buying expertise and a network that you might no otherwise be able to afford.
