"A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week" - General George S. Patton, US Army, WWII As this says, certainly an executed average plan is better than a perfect (seemingly!) plan which is never executed & tested. #planning #agileplanning

History in 60 Seconds: What do you know about Roman Legions? The Roman legion was the backbone of the powerful Roman army for centuries. Here's a breakdown of some key points: 1) Elite Infantry: For most of the Roman Empire's history, legions were the elite heavy infantry of the Roman army. 2) Citizen Soldiers: Early legions were composed entirely of Roman citizens. After reforms by Marius in 107 BC, citizenship wasn't a requirement, but it remained a prestigious role. 3) Size and Organization: The size of legions varied over time, but typically consisted of around 5,200 men during the height of the Empire. They were structured into smaller units called cohorts, centuries, and contubernia. For comparison, a US Army brigade consists of a few battalions and anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers. A colonel is generally in command. Video: Historic Vids

"Camouflage to Corporate Suits: Commanding Sales and Marketing in the Defence and Aerospace Industry."
"Looking Back with a Chuckle: The Waistline Chronicles of a Veteran" As we celebrate another glorious year, I couldn't help but take a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Stumbling upon two photos, 35 years apart, I was struck by a humorous realization. One photo captured my youthful self, freshly commissioned, beaming with pride in my unit. The other, a recent snapshot, where I had the while leaving the army after three decades. Despite the decades that separated these two moments, there was a remarkable constant, other than our proud regimental crest - OUR WAISTLINES! Ah, the military academy! A place where they take raw, enthusiastic youths and sculpt them into lean, mean, fighting machines. It seems the Army has a timeless tradition, immune to generational changes, ensuring that each one of us passes out with a waistline that's enviably slender. But here's the chuckle-worthy twist - maintaining that academy waistline through the years? That's a battle in itself! As veterans, we might fondly remember our youthful physiques, but let's face it, life (and perhaps a few extra helpings at the mess) adds a few inches to that once-slim silhouette. So, here's to the unchanging traditions of the military and the ever-changing waistlines of its veterans. We might not all have the same waistline we did at 20, but we share the same spirit, dedication, and pride. #MilitaryHumor #TimelessTraditions #LeanMeanAt20 #VeteranTales #WaistlineWars 🪖

FOB would like to say Happy Birthday to the US Army! US Army Birthday History: The American revolutionary war started on April 1775. The fighters that enlisted to fight against the British forces were militia groups paid for and equipped by the colonies, but without any organization, command, or strategy. Different groups fought under different banners which showed a lack of unity on the part of the US against their common enemy. When a battle was approaching in Boston in June, it became clear that Congress should find a solution for the militia strategy, which wasn't working. After the Committee of the Whole reached an agreement, the American Continental Army was created, with George Washington as its commander. This allowed riflemen to enlist and serve in the army, and a committee was appointed to create the rules and regulations for the said army. The first branch of the American military to be founded on that day was the Infantry. Over the year, the U.S. Army has significantly expanded its forces. The first Army service training program for new recruits took place between 1777 and 1778. In 1787, with the signing of the United States Constitution, it became defined that the acting President of the United States also acts as the Commander-in-Chief of the army. With the United States Declaration of Independence only having been enacted on July 4, 1776, this means that the American army is older than the country it serves. #USArmy #militaryhistory #fob

Today is launch day for Army 250. This is a citizen-led project I started to encourage communities, institutions, and individual Americans to engage with the story of the U.S. Army as we approach its 250th birthday in 2025. Every week we'll be sharing a newsletter that lifts up different dimensions in how the Army has influenced American life and society. This will include military campaigns and stories of American soldiers throughout our history, but it will also look at the connections between the Army and facets of American life seemingly far removed from the battlefield: food, fashion, music, literature, religion, business, civil society, and so many other domains have Army stories. This makes the Army's story relevant and personal for all Americans, irrespective of one's direct connection to the service. You can access the newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/eTG56_xG This effort is intended to complement and support the incredible initiatives underway led by the US Army, the National Museum of the US Army, the Association of the United States Army - AUSA, and the US Army Center of Military History, among other institutions. Please share with anyone you think would be interested in this, and if you'd like to contribute to this project, please send me a message! #army250 #us250 #army #veterans #
