Do you want a calm and clear mind, brain fog or mood swings? I specialise in ketogenic metabolic therapy for mental health conditions.
Fascinating facts about ketogenic diets and brain health. Research indicates that ketones, particularly beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the main ketone body produced during ketosis, have a unique ability to enhance ATP output in the brain. Ketones can freely cross the blood-brain barrier and enter neurons, where they are efficiently metabolised to produce ATP. There are fewer steps requiring enzymes and cofactor micronutrients to convert them compared to glucose, they don’t require the production of the hormone insulin in order to be used, and they have a higher rate of combustion due to their chemical structure which results in more ATP being produced compared to glucose. Studies have shown that ketone bodies help protect brain health, in particular the health of neurons and glial cells (these are the brains immune cells) by improving mitochondrial activity and increasing mitochondrial ATP production. The way that energy is produced using ketones results in fewer reactive oxygen species (ROS) being created, these are highly reactive molecules that can contribute to tissue damage resulting in inflammation. That’s a lot of benefits. 🧠 Recent studies reveal that patients with Parkinson’s disease typically have a different gut microbiome composition, notably producing lower amounts of short-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids are crucial as they play a significant role in protecting the brain and supporting overall neurological health. The reduction in these acids may contribute to the progression of neurodegenerative disorders and highlights the importance of gut health in brain health. 🧬🌿 Supporting your gut with a diet rich in fibers—from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains—can increase the production of these vital acids. Remember, taking care of your gut is also taking care of your brain! 🍃 Enhance your cognitive and digestive wellness seamlessly with MindBiotic👉 https://bit.ly/3R2qt0j 🌿 Unlock the potential of your gut for brain health! Studies show that both Omega 3 and B vitamins can reduce the risk of dementia. But new research shows that the combination of enough of the two nutrients cuts the rate of brain shrinkage by a huge 73 per cent. "The effect is greater than of any drug treatment to date" says Oxford University pharmacology professor David Smith, the man behind the discovery. Patrick Holford, the author of "Upgrade Your Brain: Unlock Your Life's Potential" recommends a daily dose of 1000-4,000mg Omega 3, 200-800mcg B9, 20-40mg B6 and 10-500mcg B12, depending on individual needs. His charity Food for the Brain Foundation (foodforthebrain.org) is a great resource, offering a home test kit that measures your homocysteine level (above 11 mcmol/L means brain shrinkage) together with your omega 3 levels. If you're worried about your cognitive health, there's so much you can do in terms of nutrition and lifestyle. I offer free 15 minute calls to discuss your health concerns and how I can help. NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is like a multitasking superhero molecule that keeps our cells running smoothly and helps maintain our genetic health. It is a coenzyme found in all living cells, playing a critical role in various biological processes. It is a key player in energy metabolism, DNA repair, cellular signaling, and maintaining cellular homeostasis. To slow the aging process it’s crucial to lead a healthy lifestyle. As we become more prone to inflammation as we age, it’s also important to fight inflammation, both through lifestyle and supplements. In addition, as NAD+ and sirtuins are involved in almost everything related to the aging process, taking supplements that boost and activate them is important. NAD+ naturally declines with age, so that’s why a healthy lifestyle alone is not enough. At Kimia, we have the solution to help you restore your body’s natural balance with 100% plant-based ingredients. Join us in unlocking the secret to turning back the clock and rediscovering a youthful, vibrant you!

Extracts from crushed white cabbage, crushed red onion, and boiled ground coffee were recently shown to inhibit activity of a compound called Phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4). PDE4 is a type of phosphodiesterase in the brain, increased levels of which have been found in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients with cognitive impairment. Researchers were hoping to explore natural compounds which could act on PDE4, since PDE4 inhibiting medications have some serious side effects. 🔍 Dive deeper into the science behind these natural compounds and their potential benefits in the fight against cognitive decline: https://lnkd.in/eq7EtpvY 📚 Stay in the loop with the latest in nutrition and brain health research! Pomegranate, particularly its juice and extracts, is recognized for its potential benefits in promoting mitochondrial health. Pomegranate is rich in polyphenols, including punicalagins and ellagic acid, which have strong antioxidant properties. These antioxidants help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress, a key factor in mitochondrial damage and dysfunction. When pomegranate is consumed, gut microbiota can convert its ellagitannins into urolithin A, a compound shown to have significant benefits for mitochondrial health. Urolithin A: One of the most exciting discoveries is that urolithin A can stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis, the process by which new mitochondria are produced within cells. This process is crucial for maintaining energy levels, especially in aging cells where mitochondrial function often declines. Urolithin A has been shown to enhance the quality and function of existing mitochondria by promoting mitophagy, the selective degradation of damaged mitochondria. This ensures that cells maintain a healthy population of mitochondria, which is essential for optimal energy production. Chronic inflammation can contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction. Pomegranate's anti-inflammatory effects can help mitigate this risk, supporting overall mitochondrial health and reducing the impact of inflammation on cellular energy production. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are key contributors to neurodegenerative diseases. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of pomegranate, along with the mitochondrial benefits of urolithin A, may help protect brain cells and reduce the risk of conditions like Alzheimer's disease. #antioxidants #antioxidant #polyphenols #pomegranate #mitochondrialhealth #dietarysupplement #brainhealth #neuroprotective #neurodegenerative #cognitive #cognitivehealth #mood #moodenhancement #stress #resilience #lifestyle #naturalhealthproducts #naturalhealth #naturalhealthsupplements #naturalmedicine #naturalwellness #naturalremedies #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing #healthiswealth #healthieryou #supplementsthatwork #fridaymood #fridayvibes #madewithpredisai

Omega-3 Index as a marker for inflammation and cardiovascular/V02 health ⬇️ When the Omega-3 Index is low (below 8%), it can lead to increased inflammation and a higher risk of potential injuries. This low index is often due to insufficient omega-3 fatty acids in the diet, contributing to an inflammatory imbalance in the body. A low Omega-3 Index can have several negative consequences: 1. Increased Inflammation: Exacerbated inflammation can lead to prolonged recovery times and a higher susceptibility to injuries, impairing muscle function, reducing range of motion, and diminishing overall athletic ability. 2. Cardiovascular Function/ V02 Max Capcity: In any aerobic sport that places demands on the cardiovascular system, efficient oxygen delivery to working muscles is crucial. Omega-3s improve the elasticity of blood vessels, enhancing blood flow and oxygen delivery to muscles during exercise. This can directly boost VO2 max. 3. Cognitive Decline: Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, are crucial for brain health. Low levels can impair cognitive function and increase the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Research has also shown higher levels of OM3i decrease and alleviate depression and anxiety. ***Concussion protocols are specific and distinct from general Omega-3 Index recommendations. This requires its own specialized protocol to address the unique challenges and recovery needs associated with brain injuries. #functionalsportsmedicine #sportsrehabilitation #sportsoptimization #sportsrecovery #omega3index

We know that sarcopenia can result in reduction in, and dysfunctional mitochondria (https://lnkd.in/ejTY4ehy). But a fantastic article summarising work by Inigo San- Millan et al, highlights that mitochondria dysfunction can occur earlier in healthy inactive individuals, impacting fat metabolism etc. Should improving mitochondria function via physical activity be the first step before weight management and diet adjusting advice (not just an addition)?
