Shrinking oil revenues and a questionable future for federal disaster aid have prompted Long Beach officials to halt reconstruction on an aging seawall that shields the Naples Island community. Among the proposals to revive the project: have homeowners foot the bill. For decades the seawall has shielded mulit-million-dollar homes and fortified the man-made canal that loops around the island. In 2009, divers and landside inspectors found gaps and cracks along the seawall they attributed to decades of erosion from gnawing waves that penetrated the concrete and corroded the steel bars that reinforce it. Since then, two of its six sections have been replaced. The rest remains in “fair condition,” prone to flooding and at risk of collapse in the event of a “major near-source earthquake.” READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/gAY5hqzp

New Mexico faced its largest recorded forest fire....and the stakes couldn’t have been higher. A call to our Geovert office in Denver set off a race against time to protect critical infrastructure and water supply from catastrophic post-fire debris flows. Check out the article to see how our team rose to the challenge: https://lnkd.in/gNGnUpDc Some Key Highlights: • Post-fire debris flows risked devastating waterways, bridges, and water supply systems in the Gallinas Canyon region. • Geovert’s team deployed within days, designing and installing four debris flow protection systems before monsoon season began. • A 100-foot debris flow system in a live waterway was completed with concurrent design adjustments. It captured debris just 30 minutes after installation, proving its effectiveness. • Worked closely with FEMA and US Army Corps of Engineers to safeguard the town’s drinking water and infrastructure. • Geovert’s CEO, Anthony Teen personally led efforts, reinforcing our company’s ethos: “Our word is our bond.” This project truly showcased our ability to tackle extreme challenges with expertise, innovation, and collaboration. It’s a testament to what’s possible when engineering meets decisive action under pressure. Well done team! 👏🏼 #NaturalHazardMitigation #DisasterResponse #Geovert #EngineeringSolutions #EmergencyManagement
