Cataract disease is highly treatable and one simple step toward extending patients’ vision health is through comprehensive, annual eye examinations. Optos’ core devices can image through cataracts 85% of the time. The UWF view of an optomap® image can be captured through hazy media where white light has difficulty penetrating, revealing problematic retinal issues prior to surgery. Visit our blog to read more on the importance of utilizing UWF imaging to identify risks prior to surgery as well as the importance of educating your patients on the severity and commonality of cataract disease. https://lnkd.in/exrGjskb #optos #optomap #UWF #cataract

Our newest publication indicates promising outcomes for immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS). This contributes to the growing literature in support of the efficacy and safety of ISBCS as an approach to treating visually significant cataracts. It was a pleasure to be a part of this research, helping to inform the efficiency of treatment for patients with cataracts. A new technique for accessing the mitral valve via the left anterior minithoracotomy has been developed for patients requiring both mitral valve surgery and coronary artery bypass grafting. From October 2020 to September 2022, 24 patients underwent this procedure, which involved specialized exposure maneuvers and conventional surgical techniques. #CABG #LeftAnteriorThoracotomy #MinimallyInvasive #MitralValve

Mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (#TEER) versus isolated mitral surgery for severe mitral regurgitation. Always an important and interesting debate between both parties. At 3-year follow-up, TEER was associated with significantly lower incidence of cardiovascular death (hazard ratio 0.685, 95 % confidence interval 0.563–0.832; P = .0001), pacemaker implantation, and stroke. Presenting MacVic Femoral Arterial Cannulas for Adult Cardiac Surgery: Femoral Arterial Cannula for Cardiac Surgery: - A cannula inserted into the femoral artery in the groin area - Used for: - Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) - Perfusion - Aortic cannulation (alternative to direct aortic cannulation) - Advantages: - Minimally invasive - Reduced risk of aortic dissection or trauma - Easier access in patients with complex aortic pathology - Allows for peripheral perfusion - Features: - Typically 20-24 French (5.9-7.9 mm) in diameter and 20-30 cm long - Flexible or rigid design - Radiopaque markers for fluoroscopic guidance - Hemostatic valves for reduced bleeding - Considerations: - Risk of femoral artery injury or dissection - Potential for lower limb ischemia - Requires careful patient selection and monitoring Femoral arterial cannulas are used in cardiac surgery as an alternative to direct aortic cannulation, offering a minimally invasive approach with a reduced risk of aortic complications. However, careful patient selection and monitoring are crucial to minimize potential risks. #magnetmedical #femoral #cannula #hearthealth #Surgery

Total occlusion of the femoral artery can result in severe limb ischemia if left untreated, making Percutaneous Transmural Arterial Bypass (PTAB) an important innovation in vascular surgery. This procedure seeks to bypass occlusions of the femoral artery by implanting a stent through the femoral vein, anastomosing with proximal and distal segments of the artery. In this article, Dr. Sean Lyden discusses insights learned from the DETOUR system’s clinical trials. This system, synonymous with PTAB, offers a new method for the management of chronic total occlusions. As one of the pioneering surgeons using the DETOUR system, Dr. Lyden’s expertise in technical procedural strategies and patient selection is invaluable. Thoracoscopy is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses an instrument called a Thoracoscope to view the insides of the chest cavity or pleural cavity, and perform certain interventions. It’s a better alternative to incisional (open) surgery. It is an important element in a surgical procedure called Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery. https://lnkd.in/gWgiBydC #KauveryHospital #Thoracoscopy #LungProblems #LungDiseases #ThoracoscopicSurgery #MinimalAccessSurgery #MinimallyInvasiveSurgery #Healthcare
