Here’s what I think about progesterone as a tool for breast cancer prevention: Breast cancer rates globally increased **130%** from 1990-2020. The mainstream way of preventing breast cancer is **NOT** working. Because of this, we all need to take our health into our own hands and do our own research. Taking bio-identical progesterone is one way that I have taken my health into my own hands this year. As someone who was on birth control for 7 years and exposed myself to countless chemicals that had estrogenic effects, I prioritize optimizing my hormone levels. **Excess estrogen DOES lead to the formation of cancer in the body, especially BREAST CANCER!** Even if your breast cancer is still not ER-positive, estrogen still played a role in the proliferation of cancer cells. This used to be the mainstream school of thought (back when the only people who got breast cancer were people who had a family history of it), but a lot of literature doesn’t discuss this anymore. In recent years, about only 13% of people who received a breast cancer diagnosis had a family history. I do not have a family history of breast cancer, but because of what I know about my own health history in regards to chronic inflammation and exposure to synthetic estrogen, I find progesterone to be extremely important in the maintenance of my health. Progesterone helps counter act the negative effects of excess estrogen. Excess estrogen proliferates breast tissue with causes the growth of abnormal cells which can cause cancer. Progesterone is a natural **agonist** which helps reduce excessive growth in breast tissue. Additionally, being on hormonal birth control **SHUTS OFF** your body’s natural production of hormones. Because of this, almost 2 years after being off of birth control, I was still deficient in progesterone and my levels were suboptimal for my age. Because of this, I take bio-identical progesterone capsules, as well as use a bio-identical progesterone cream. I don’t think everyone needs to take progesterone orally like I do, but I think all women could benefit from the use of the cream. A lot of companies selling bio-identical hormones are popping up right now and that is because there is a legitimate need for them. However, a lot of them are making a profit by selling products that have harmful ingredients that can further contribute to inflammation and the formation of cancer. These are not companies that care about optimizing your health. I only use progesterone products from Raena Health because they do not have added ingredients with harmful effects.
