A business strategy isn’t to be tokenistically developed and forgotten about. A strategy is to be your guiding light, the focal point of the work of the organisation and those who work on behalf of it. We launch our new business strategy for 2024-28 ‘Driving the Local Game’, with five key strategic priorities; 1. Improving playing choice and opportunity 2. Deliver equal opportunities for women and girls to play 3. Build more, and improve existing, facilities 4. Tackle poor behaviour 5. Develop a valued network of volunteers, coaches and referees And three key strategic drivers; 1. Support thriving community clubs 2. Connect and serve participants 3. Progress the game’s governance We’ve called the strategy ‘Driving the Local Game’ because that’s what we intend to do - drive participation numbers and opportunities for all, drive female participation across all areas/roles in the game, drive facility improvement including grass pitches, drive positive behaviours to create nurturing and welcoming environments, and drive the numbers and experience of those who make the game possible. A focus on thriving community clubs, connected participants, and enhanced governance across the game will enable us to do that. All with the continued vision of creating A Thriving Local Game. Well done Matt Stebbings for the work done in preparing the strategy which will guide the work of the organisation over the next four years.

The ECB have launched the sale of their 49 per cent of each of the 8 Hundred teams. Bidders have two questions they need answering: (1) sense testing the reliability of the media rights value projections when the UK TV rights to the Hundred have never been truly sold into the market separately (2) understanding the consistency of the squad spend assumptions and the income line- most notably can the Hundred establish a virtuous circle of attracting the global stars who might drive the international media and commercial revenue that helps to pay for them or will it falter and end up not attracting the top global stars or the associated revenue they bring, especially when Major League Cricket in the USA wants the same stars for the same calendar slot.
