***Make use of available resources*** In the early days of my tech journey, the lack of resources was a significant challenge. However, where there is a will, there is always a way. My quest for knowledge led me to an unlikely place that became my gateway to the world of computers. Without a computer at home, I frequented cyber cafés to learn about computers and the internet. Even though it wasn’t easy, I made the most of what I had. I spent hours exploring, learning, and experimenting with different software. These cyber cafés were my classrooms, and the limited time I had on the computers there taught me to be efficient and focused. Use every resource at your disposal to pursue your passion. This experience taught me that perseverance and resourcefulness can overcome any obstacle. Despite the constraints, I absorbed as much knowledge as I could, laying a strong foundation for my future. In today’s world there is a dearth of cybersecurity professionals who have true hands-on training in realistic settings. To address this issue, the University of Oregon’s Computer Science Department has partnered with NIKSUN to address this learning gap to create the competent and empowered cybersecurity professionals of tomorrow. Indeed, The University of Oregon and NIKSUN have ambitions to collaborate further on the generation of academia in this space, including in bringing Artificial/Machine Learning capabilities to students at the university. As an initial step, the University of Oregon’s Computer Science Department will partner with NIKSUN, Inc. in organizing the 3rd Virtual Summer School on Internet Measurements. Building on two successful prior summer schools at the University’s Computer Science Department, this 3rd edition, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, July 01-02, 2024, will offer a unique combination of the theoretical and practical aspects that arise in the context of measuring network infrastructure and the internet, be it at the global scale or the scale of individual campus networks. 2nd week of the 2nd semester starts today. (Yes, my final semester). #networksecurity is what I'm studying. My time at Conestoga College has been worthwhile so far(gladly). I'm a week behind. (missed 1st classes for good reasons) In my previous post, I mentioned been open to new job opportunities. I asked self, what have I got to offer? While taking a shower, I encountered the "aha moment": (Yes, I made it to this list too) As part of showing my commitment in this new career path (apart from learning, practicing), I'd be writing "something like a journal" of the learning experience. Taking 6 courses this semester: *Wireless and mobile security (no comment yet) *Virtualization & Cloud Security (I think I'd enjoy this) *Network Security II (scared of this guy) *Computer Forensics (feeling like a forensic expert already) *Emerging Security Technologies (..and what does the future hold) *Career Management (i'm not sure what this would be like) Each week, topics/concepts taught in each course would be discussed / summarized But I am struggling with "that feeling"... Would I be technical enough? Would I be consistent enough? Would I be, Would I be, Would I be.... (you know the rest) Through this, I hope to:  * share ideas/thought process in a way that's unequivocal through  words. * Compress knowledge/ideas to few wordings that still makes  sense.(repetition of above, but I still needed to write this) * Show the potential (employer/colleague/friend/enthusiast) what  I've got upstairs (feel free to ask what this means if you're  lost). I do not really have a plan thought out. Not too sure how this would go. But I might as well just start something right? 🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 I’m thrilled to share that I have completed the Google IT Support Professional Certificate from Coursera! 🎓💻 This upskilling adventure was both fun and rewarding, helping me modernize my IT knowledge in: 🔧 Troubleshooting & Technical Support 🛠️ Operating Systems & System Administration 🌐 Networking 🔒 Security I am incredibly grateful to the intense program for helping me rediscover my learning habits and develop the task and project management skills needed to complete a six-month program in less than three months. This journey also helped me overcome the learning barriers related to neurodiversity that I have struggled with in the past. A huge thank you to the amazing staff and students at NPower Canada for their support and for putting up with my humorous attempts to impersonate the CEO of the fictional company Blackstone Data Disposal and Destruction Incorporated. Your encouragement made this experience unforgettable! The hands-on labs and interactive content provided practical, real-world experience that I’m excited to apply in my future roles. So, what am I going to do next? I’m not sure, but I’m definitely excited to apply these newly acquired learning habits to see what I can achieve. I’m particularly interested in continuing to pursue my passion for learning more about Cloud Technology and AI, and exploring how these solutions can help remove barriers that students encounter in learning. The Education System and Its Room for Improvement I recently came across a speech from 2010 by my school principal. It highlighted the school's achievements and the accolades earned by students, which were broadly categorized into: 1. Academic 2. Sports 3. Co-curricular (For example, Debates) TL;DR: I didn't fit into any of those categories, yet I’m having a great life. All credit goes to computer science, which wasn't captured in the above three categories. Where was the miss ? I've always been involved with computers and, to some extent, gadgets (though not as much now, as trying new things requires a lot of effort). Computer science and its knowledge are not confined to a single stream. While programming languages are taught in schools under academics, consider areas like ethical hacking. Do schools teach that? This highlights a gap in the education system. Schools and their courses often don't cover all areas of life, similar to how they don't teach about taxes. As industries rapidly grow with digitization, they have to conduct training on cyber security. One of my best experiences with such training was in the format of virtual escape room. Imagine if schools conducted similar sessions to teach the pitfalls of the online world. We learned how to write an email in school, but what about striking up a conversation over chat? Or asking for a referral? Who has formulated the ideal way of asking for a referral in today's digital age? JioCinema has started streaming e-sports, where teams compete in video games. Many of us remember being discouraged from playing games like Call of Duty to focus on academics. Yet, e-sports is a growing field in recent times. When something isn't structured, it tends to be a mess—computers and computer science are prime examples. The virtual world is chaotic too. Addressing these gaps early in education would be beneficial. Thus, school education framework can be improved by including - - Esports - Cyber Security - Website designing ... and probably many more. Schools teach abstract principles of life—humbleness, kindness, competition, and leadership. These principles are applicable in both the physical and virtual worlds. And, if you feel, you haven’t received your due recognition, perhaps the metaverse is waiting for you.
