"The biggest life transition that impacted me was not my move to a foreign country, but the return to the one I was born." 🏡 Returning home after living abroad. We often talk about the complexity of leaving our birth country, but what about when we come back? 👉 Does it feel like home again? 👉 Do we still fit in? 👉 Can we experience a culture shock? 👉 Have you ever experienced a return? Here is the story of Iman as part of my “Women in Life Transition” collection. https://lnkd.in/g2tvbtNG #lifetransition #expatriation #testimonial #lifetransitioncoach #relocation #livingabroad

Just back home after a wonderful week in Italy. But, I've been left wondering what it means when an airport says they support the Hidden disability sunflower scheme. At BHX (Birmingham) at departures while there is signage saying they support it, unless you're confident enough to approach someone or ask my experience was it doesn't do anything. The only place it has any percievable benefit is going through passport control. This is the same at arrivals. Despite the being an indicated sunflower / fast track queue line indicated both it and the dedicated exit (and lift to the immigration hall) we're blocked off. At NAP (Naples) despite the website saying they're aware. It meant absolutely nothing. We asked both in English and Italian and were met with blank faces. Now, fortunately my wife and I are confident. Despite us being stressed at each airport and having to navigate that, we were able to make do. To cope. But what it highlites to me (and this isn't a snipe at the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 💜, I love this scheme and all it does) it demonstrated that the actual staff training to recognise what it means without needing to be approached is really lacking. The same goes for the tour operator Secret Escapes and TUI on their websites the ability to organise any support prior to travel was so vague, so clumsy and so difficult that we just didn't bother. As a former member of cabin crew I was just as disappointed on board. Despite proudly wearing our sunflower bracelets, not one crew member asked us if or what help we may have required. Net result, it's been a fantastic week but after just todays travel, I'm absolutely frazzled. #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #neurodiversityawarenesstraining #adhd #autism #travel #tourism

Let's talk discounts for PWD in Japan! Did you know Japan has many tourist sites and public transportation options that offer discounts for persons with disabilities? But here's the catch: foreign tourists may need help navigating these discounts. In Japan, locals use a disability ID called a shogaisha techo (障がい者手帳), which is essentially like a disability passbook. It's a big help for residents, providing access to discounts on transportation, attractions, and more. But for visitors, it's a different story. If you're from a country without a disability ID, you might feel left out at ticket counters. Even if you have one from your home country, it's in a foreign language, which can lead to confusion. Each establishment handles it differently, some strictly adhere to the rules, while others are more flexible. But fear not! Here's a tip: consider getting your ID translated into Japanese. It might not guarantee a discount, but it can help staff understand your situation better. Remember, it's not about judgment - it's about policy. And with the rise in foreign tourists, attractions are becoming more accommodating. So, when in doubt, be patient, be prepared, and enjoy your adventures in Japan! 🌸 For more info, check out disability discount section of our website: https://lnkd.in/da9RJvZc #AccessibleJapan #TravelTips #JapanDiscounts

The decision to follow a partner abroad often leads to significant sacrifices, particularly for expatriate spouses who give up not only their career but also their social circle and lifestyle. 👥 💼 🌍 According to Expat Insider, a significant majority of trailing spouses are women. While husbands may have the continuity of an organized job structure, and children may have the routine of school, spouses often lack immediate support systems and purpose in their new lives. 👩💼 On International Women's Day, we want to applaud and acknowledge the resilience of expatriate spouses, who bravely confront challenges, from career sacrifices to feelings of isolation. At Grow Internationals, our commitment is to provide comprehensive support services, ensuring that every member of the relocating family feels welcomed, valued, and empowered in Sweden. 🇸🇪 -------------- #womensday #womensday2024 #spousesupport #expatfamily #expatriates
