👉 This is an incredible reminder for leaders to not allow authority to undermine organizational efficiency. The Marine Corps does an incredible job with this within our infantry squads. An example that comes to mind is the decision making authority that we placed on our point man when clearing compounds in Afghanistan. Typically, the point man is a junior Marine that leads a team of Marines through the compound. The point man is the first target an enemy combatant sees which translates to the point man being most likely to be wounded. Guess who makes the critical calls when clearing a compound for the team? Is it the team leader? Squad leader? Platoon commander “Lieutenant”? No! We trained that it’s always the point man’s role to dictate movements throughout the compound. The junior Marine on the team. The reason is simple: They have the most visibility to opportunities and threats. What matters on the battle field is strategy, organization and grit. This is always how a much smaller army has managed to defeat a much larger opponent. The same principle applies to Business. October 1, 331 BC: Alexander the Great defeated Darius III of Persia at the Battle of Gaugamela, a crucial victory in his conquest of the Persian Empire. Modern estimates put the size of Darius’ force at anywhere between 90,000 to 250,000 men, outnumbering Alexander’s army of 40,000 infantry and 7,000 cavalry. This victory led to Alexander’s capture of key Persian cities like Babylon and Persepolis, eventually conquering the entire Persian empire. 🇮🇳 🇺🇸 🇷🇺 India decided to buy American armored personnel carriers instead of Russian ones India plans to replace more than 2,000 Russian-designed BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles in its army with the latest generation of American Stryker armored personnel carriers – The Times of India. Negotiations with the United States on this issue are at an “advanced stage.”It is assumed that at the first stage, New Delhi will purchase a certain number of Strykers as part of the American Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, then the countries will establish their joint production in India. Stryker armored personnel carriers will be adapted to Indian terrain, including the high mountainous regions of eastern Ladakh and Sikkim.

And now, for something completely different. Today, instead of the usual awesomeness of the Brigade of Guards and Household Cavalry, here's the unusual awesomeness of the Brigade of Gurkhas, performing rousing music while on the march in Windsor. And when we say 'on the march', we mean- 140 paces a minute, an historical result of being formed as 'rifle regiments', moving quicker on the battlefields than their counterparts in the line infantry, who move at a comparatively- sluggish 120 paces per minute. I marvel at British military musicians, and here's why- in an age when many people struggle with walking and chewing gum at the same time, these magnificent soldiers play complicated musical pieces while marching. In terms of their other soldierly skills, most British military musicians also lead a double life as either a heavy-weapons company member, an assault pioneer, or a combat medical technician. These are full-time infantry trades in their own right, never mind also becoming a world-class piper, drummer, bugler, what have you. And then, consider in the case of these Gurkhas, they have also come halfway around the world to learn English, so that they can then learn to be top-notch soldiers!
