Every February, we honor the contributions and sacrifices of black people who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our history. As a black man, it is a month of reflection for me and most importantly gratitude for those to walked so that we can run , and who fought for the Freedom and rights we all have today . It is also an opportunity for everyone to learn about black Canadians who shaped our history through their accomplishments and selflessness. I have listed a few , but we should all dedicate time to research further. This isn't just Black Canadian history, this is Canadian history. Anderson Ruffin Abbott: First Canadian-born Black doctor in Canada Elijah McCoy: Canadian-American inventor and engineer Jean Augustine PC CM OOnt CBE : First Black Canadian woman to serve as a federal Minister of the Crown and Member of Parliament (picture below) William Peyton Hubbard: Canadian inventor and politician. Viola Desmond, business woman and fearless human rights activist Anne Cools, First Black person to become a Canadian senator #blackhistorymonth #blackhistorymonth2024 #canada #Canadahistory #immigrants #blm #naija #novascotia #blackexcellence #blackhistory #knowledgeispower #history #afcon

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Lead @ Robinhood | Communications Expert | Social Impact Advocate | Ex-Microsoft, Ex-Zillow
The recent debate comment about "Black jobs" serves as a powerful reminder of why I pivoted my career to advocate for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in our workplaces and the broader society. Every day, underrepresented and historically marginalized individuals face bias and micro-aggressions that can hinder career progression and well-being. These aren't isolated incidents – they're symptoms of systemic issues that, if left unchecked and unchallenged, can lead to serious outcomes. 🔍 Bias can manifest in many forms—from hiring practices to daily interactions. It can be as overt as discriminatory hiring decisions or as subtle as consistently being overlooked for opportunities. 💬 Microaggressions are the everyday, subtle, intentional—and oftentimes unintentional—interactions or behaviors that communicate some sort of bias toward historically marginalized groups. These can range from dismissive comments to assumptions based on stereotypes. ❗️ WHY DEI MATTERS: Equity: Ensures that everyone has access to the same opportunities, leveling the playing field for all. Inclusion: Fosters a sense of belonging where all voices are heard and valued. Diversity: Brings a variety of perspectives that drive innovation and growth. Creating a culture that truly values DEI isn't just the right thing to do—it's essential for the health of our organizations and society. When we challenge biases and address microaggressions, we pave the way for a more inclusive, innovative, and equitable future. #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Bias #Microaggressions #Leadership #EmpathyInLeadership
A Dog-whistle indeed…and OUR clarion call to Action. Black People: OUR job is to honor OUR Ancestors and Vote…for OUR liberation. WE have too much to lose, if we sit on the sidelines. Remember Post-Obama America? Make America Great, at last!

February is Black History Month! Join us throughout the month in honoring the contributions, achievements, and sacrifices by Black Americans and Canadians. Origins of Black History Month in the US date back to the 1920s. February was chosen as the celebratory month to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two important figures in Black history. President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” Today, Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of both Black Americans and Canadians across American/Canadian history and society—from activists and civil rights pioneers such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Viola Desmond and Rosa Parks to leaders in industry, politics, science, culture and more. Let us never forget that Black History is an integral part of American History that should never be forgotten or rewritten without its’ original truths. Therefore with today being the last day of Black History Month, let us all be forever thankful for our ancestors who made today possible for us. Let us all daily honor & remember their contributions to America & all of the four corners of this world. It’s time for us to start building onto our predecessor’s legacies & work diligently to erase the negative stereotypes of our people. Let us all work together to move the dream forward for our future generations. Let us all work together to stop the senseless killing of our fellow brothers & sisters. Let us all work together with our other brothers & sisters of different races & creeds to create better communities, states & nations. Let us all work together to genuinely help each other become better. Let us all work together to educate each other instead of trying to eradicate each other. The Rights we have today should never be taken for granted because those Rights came from our ancestor’s blood, sweat, tears & prayers. Our ancestors didn’t struggle, sacrifice & die for us to regress. We must progress & never surrender to those things that threaten our progress.✊🏾 #BlackHistory #AmericanHistory #LoveMore #UnderstandMore #BuildMore #UniteMore #EndHate #Explore #ExplorePage
