#Mission300 - Local Perspective #Mission300, a global initiative aiming to electrify 300 million Africans by 2030 is on the news, globally. Yet, I do not see an equal excitement and discussion from local counterparts. While #Mission300 is a promising goal, what matters more is how well Ethiopia [ and local counterparts in general] can leverage this opportunity. I do think setting the local perspective is equally important. And here is what I think works best for Ethiopia. It is at the same time key for the global players to bring promises in to action. Here are the key points: ⤵ ✔ Ethiopia's Challenge: Millions of Ethiopians [~60m] lack access to electricity, even more so in rural areas. ✔ #Mission300's Potential: The initiative offers significant resources, but Ethiopia needs to be prepared to capture them effectively. ✔ Focus on Action: Bureaucracy and slow project implementation can hinder progress. Prioritizing projects and leveraging existing capacity for faster results is fundamental. ✔ Policy and Regulatory Reforms: Updating the legal frameworks and streamlining processes are crucial to attract investment in solar energy solutions. Distributed renewables generation, #DRE, is a missing link in the policy circle and further reform is necessary. ✔ Local Commitment: Financial and policy commitments from the Ethiopian government are necessary to demonstrate serious interest and attract further support. ✔ Learning from Experience: Optimizing existing projects like ADELE can provide valuable insights for #mission300 and other future initiatives. ✔ Strengthen implementing institutions and industry association ahead of time. ➡ Finally, I emphasize on the importance of local engagement [making a bigger noise] and further reforms for #Ethiopia to maximize the benefits of #Mission300 and achieve its own electrification target. This milestone is recognized globally, with the airport obtaining 𝗔𝗖𝗔 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀. 🌿🌏 VINCI Concessions, part of French group Vinci SA, inaugurated a rooftop solar power system at Toulon Hyères airport. This system generates𝟲𝟵𝟬 𝗠𝗪𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 and supplies green electricity to the airport. To address residual emissions, the airport funds 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁, collaborating with local authorities and communities . The airport's environmental plan, initiated by VINCI Airports, reduced direct CO2 emissions by 92.5% between 2018 and 2022.
