The Town of Orangeville is more than halfway into the first year of our two-year fare-free transit pilot and the numbers so far reveal ridership is increasing with this initiative. Last night at Orangeville Council, staff presented the ridership numbers, demonstrating the year-over-year changes since 2019. Although ridership decreased during the second-half of the pandemic, it has now more than doubled over usage in 2022. Here are the results from January to June: 2019 - 52, 815 2020 - 40,520 2021 - 39,474 2022 - 39,789 2023 - 98,648 The Town has committed to seeking ways to make Orangeville Transit more accessible and better meet the needs of our community. The fare-free transit pilot is just one of the pieces put in motion. We’re excited to soon be able to share more details about other upcoming changes including: • Shifting routes to include the Veteran’s Way Community, an area of Town that has not been able to receive transit access prior. • The new Orangeville Transit Transfer Terminal, which will be completed in the coming months. • On-demand bus services, creating more flexibility to meet the needs of residents who need access outside of regular route pick-up times.

1yDon't you think it would be better to charge riders and use the revenue to improve the city or lower! Our taxes. Then to pay bus driver and gas and all that on the home owners dime. Let's face it most home owners are not the ones benefiting from this free ridership program.
