Our own Pokumaa The sedges that make up Pokumai are often the most numerous and dominant species in their habitat. It is these species that shape a lot of the surrounding living environment, although this can also be done by sedges and other plants that do not form clusters. For example, spruce is dominant in a spruce forest. Similar to the fir tree, pokumäta provide habitats where they grow and are food for many animals. That's how you bury trees in a forest. In lowland and transitional bogs, sedges can also form peat. Just as Edgar Valter describes pokus in the Poku book, pokud have always lived with their toes in the water and so close to each other that they can talk comfortably. Although most sedges grow in moist habitats, not all of them form sedges. Some species grow more sparsely, and from a distance it may seem that there is a uniform "hay". https://lnkd.in/gGuWSPkX

What does it mean to be wild? In most definitions, wild is a manner of being reckless, unhinged, untamed. Personally I think that which is wild is simply undiscovered. Biomimicry doesn’t have to be an invention. It could also be something remembered. At its core it is about creating systems that celebrate the inherent connection between people and the land. The Ahupua’a system of Kaua’i and the Alapoko Fishpond are ancient examples of some of the finest examples of biomimicry.
