Storytime: What's the meaning behind our name Yirigaa? At Yirigaa, our journey began with the search for a name that reflected our purpose and culture. We found it in the Wiradjuri word Yirigaa, meaning Morning Star. This Morning Star is depicted in our logo and brand. 🔆 In Aboriginal kinship Totems are important. They relate to one's nation, clan and family group and reflects their strengeths and weaknesses. For Wiradjuri people, the Morning Star holds significance to those who bear this Totem. From an early age, they are trained to understand the seasonal variations. Entrusted with the responsibility of fostering cooperation among different kinship groups to ensure the survival of plants, animals, and people. It is also understood that Morning Star Totem bearers, based on their unique talents and skills, will help create meaningful change. Our name Yirigaa symbolises leadership, growth, and the strength to bring meaningful change for the next generation of First Nations leaders. #realtalk I’ve been doing some work on myself and with my amazing team at Viibe. Some advice to all, especially new leaders (people, projects): We are all first-timers at being humans on this planet. While this statement isn’t intended to reinforce unaccountability, it is intended to remind us that we aren’t perfect, and striving for perfection isn’t the answer. Be a good person, do your best work, learn from mistakes, and continue to lead with vision. You have a role as a leader. It’s okay to make yourself vulnerable, be humble, and have humility.
