“Medical field is so competitive.”
I have been talking to a lot of Anesthesia residency trainees who just stepped foot into the practice. Every resident I come across mentions it once in our conversations.
Some are quick learners. Some are gifted. Some are fiercely hard-working.
But there’s one thing I find common in all of them: a deeply caring spirit.
I see a reflection of myself in them.
I remember those days when there were only 12 seats in the residency program of my choice.
I ranked 24th.
Imagine my plight!
In that moment, for me, the world came crashing down.
But, destiny had something else in store for me.
After a rigorous selection process, I was accepted into the prestigious Saudi Commission for Health Specialities Anesthesia residency program.
The residency was a rollercoaster of trials and triumphs. Our pursuit of knowledge, occasionally, demanded that we remain awake to absorb every ounce of information presented to us.
It was challenging. But, it morphed us into the physicians who offer care, with compassion while considering any and every concern.
Seeing my juniors thrive in such a supportive environment reminds me of the profound impact our institution has on lives.
I'm forever grateful for the mentors and senior colleagues who not only educated me, but taught me the values of nurture and compassion, values I see echoed in my juniors' paths.
To each of them, I extend this message - Life unfurls in unexpected ways. Stay anchored in your passion, and you'll find paths opening, guiding you to your purpose.
