After years of "bikini medicine" work by trailblazing physicians such as Nanette Wenger and national educational and advocacy programs from the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute started to turn the tide on gender-specific differences in cardiovascular disease. However, we still see a significant gap in the research, treatment and awareness of gender-based differences in heart health. 🫀 Almost 70% of trainees reported no or minimal education in gender-based medical concepts during postgraduate medical training. 🫀 Only 22% of primary care physicians and 42% of cardiologists in a nationwide survey felt prepared to address cardiovascular risk in women. We know that women patients benefit when more women physicians practice and research. Title: Indexing Healthcare Access and Quality for Surgically Amenable Conditions: A Global Analysis of 204 Countries and Territories from 1990 to 2019 Short Abstract: We present an up-to-date global analysis indexing surgical healthcare access and quality index for 204 countries and territories. The surgical HAQ had good internal consistency, was correlated strongly with the arithmetic mean, and had a statistically significant correlation with the surgical preparedness index, denoting concurrent validity. Our analysis found that low-income countries had limited progress in surgical HAQ since 1990 and lagged behind non-surgical HAQ in 2019. The index and comprehensive global analysis are valuable for global assessments, policymaking, and advocacy for investing in surgical systems. ❤️💡Excited to share insights from the latest session on Preventive Cardiology from the second day at #ESC2024!   One of the poster presentations that really caught my attention was this one: "The effectiveness and barrier of reverse cascade screening for paediatricfamilial hypercholesterolaemia" They explored innovative methods for early detection of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) through integrated screening models. The Reverse Cascade Screening combined with universal screening was shown to significantly improve the identification of new FH cases. Out of 275 cases, a significant number were identified through innovative screening techniques, emphasizing the importance of family history in diagnosing and managing FH.  🚀 Key takeaway? A comprehensive strategy for diagnosing reverse FH is crucial to enhance early detection and prevention efforts. We seek to learn about the lived experiences of the CFM community to improve wellbeing and to make a lasting difference to the CFM journey both now and in the future. We consider CFM to be a broad term that includes the following diagnoses: microtia, hemifacial microsomia, Goldenhar syndrome, and Oculo-Auriculo-Vertebral Spectrum (OAVS).
