Offshore Client's Representative | Project Manager | survey | marine geology & geotechnical | EU, UK, USA & Asia
Question! I've had the surgery that allows me to resume my role worldwide. But I have to renew my safety certification first. Asking specifically the suppliers and the clients - which safety certificate is the one worth getting for ship-borne seabed survey? Of the three incredibly similar, but mutually exclusive, certs that are out there. What do the call-outs actually, really, require? Is there any tolerance in the call-outs for crossover at all? I'm not going to be collecting all three of them like badges. Four-fifths of each course is transferable to the other. The other fifth is unique but irrelevant to project crew on seabed survey - I've named them below. A) BOSIET (every four years) - helicopter crew change survival B) GWO (every two years) - working at height C) STCW-BST (every five years) - marine crew firefighting with BA #BOSIET #GWO #gwotraining #offshorewind #cables #HUET #offshorejobs

Senior Engineer, Contract Construction Representative for Trenchless Crossings on Strategic Pipeline Alliance project
Depends what you do. BOSIET is definitely required for Oil and gas sector because it includes helicopter survival. Oil and gas survey will sometimes accept GWO unless the Client's standard conditions exclude it, but both HUET and GWO may be dictated by the client. Oil and gas are rarely concerned with Working at Heights - there is no BOSIET equivalent. Local requirements apply. I had to do a local H2S course for the Danish Sector in 2019, I had a OPITO one from RoK which was accepted by the Client but not the Contractor. Marine crew are a different issue because they don't usually change by helicopter, with offshore rigs being the main exception. STCW is basically for marine crew, although I did do it at one time (local requirements again)

Today on the MatchMaritime page, we delve into the final step of the onboarding process, which, while not mandatory for all nationalities in the medical team, holds significant importance in the maritime realm: STCW and CDC or often called Seaman's book! 📜 STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping): This international maritime convention sets the gold standard for seafarer training. To obtain your STCW certification: 1. Training Courses: Enroll in accredited STCW courses at maritime training institutions. These courses cover essential topics like firefighting, survival at sea, and navigation. 2. Document Verification: Ensure you have the necessary documents, including medical certificates and a valid passport. 3. Assessment: Successfully complete the course assessments and practical exercises. 4. Application: Apply to your country's maritime authority for STCW certification. 🚢 CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate): Often called a "seaman's book," it's crucial for your maritime career. Here's how to get one: 1. Eligibility: You should have completed your STCW training and have a job offer on a vessel. 2. Application: Contact your country's maritime authority or consulate to apply. They will guide you through the process and required documents. 3. Verification: Your employer will often verify your details, and your CDC will be issued upon confirmation. Obtaining STCW and a CDC is your passport to a rewarding maritime career. These certifications ensure you're well-prepared and compliant with international standards, making you an asset to any ship's crew. Whether you're setting sail on your maritime journey or looking to advance in the industry, understanding the path to STCW and the Seaman's Book is your compass to success. 🚢🌎 #MaritimeSafety #STCW #CDC #Seafarers #CareerAtSea #MaritimeTraining #Navigation #SafetyAtSea

HUET stands for Helicopter Underwater Escape Training. The HUET abbreviation is the offshore industry standard for the type of training needed for personnel going to and from offshore facilities. HUET training is one of the fundamental courses working in the offshore industry. Thousands of workers and personnel travel to and from offshore sites every year. They each have to undergo HUET training. Offshore sites such as oil rigs will often only be accessible by helicopters. The commute includes taking off from and landing at facilities where a certain level of safety knowledge is required. All people who will travel to an offshore facility must have a BOSIET or FOET certificate. People going just once to an offshore site may only require HUET training. HUET training is focused on emergencies when travelling by helicopter and how to assess and act in high-risk situations. ©RelyOn Nutec.
