We’ll be doing pick-ups every week, on your regular pick-up day of the week.   To get ready, DPW has introduced an easy way to remember the steps to recycle properly. 🌿 Introducing the 3 Cs: Clean it, Contain it, Curb it. 🌍 ✅ Clean it—make sure all recycling is rinsed and dry.
✅ Contain it—collect your recycling in a DPW-issued recycling bin, or your container of choice. Don’t have a bin? Don’t worry. Click the link in our bio to receive one.
✅ Curb it—make sure your recycling is outside, secured, and ready for pickup by 6 AM on your scheduled pick-up day.

Redemption rates in most states with bottle bills decreased in 2023 compared with the previous year, according to data from the Container Recycling Institute. The numbers reflect a downward redemption rate trend since 2017.

Sustainability Advocate's Review: Repurposing with a Careful Eye The sentiment behind this process is admirable. Turning waste into something useful aligns perfectly with the core principles of sustainability. However, from an eco-conscious architect and project manager's perspective, there are a few aspects that need consideration: Energy Consumption: Shredding a plastic bottle requires significant energy. It's crucial to assess the bottle's potential for reuse before resorting to this method. Could it be a water bottle again, a plant pot, or even construction material for an eco-friendly project? Material Transformation: Turning shredded plastic into a usable thread is an interesting concept, but its feasibility and environmental impact are unclear. Ideally, the process should be low-energy and non-toxic. Researching existing methods for upcycling plastic into textiles is recommended. Dyeing Considerations: Dyes can have a significant environmental footprint. Natural dyes or recycled water-based alternatives should be prioritized to minimize environmental impact. A Better Solution? Here's a more sustainable approach we could consider: Clean and Disinfect: Instead of shredding, thoroughly clean and disinfect the bottle. Repurpose as a Water Bottle: Refill it with filtered water and encourage the homeless person to reuse it. Woolen Beanie Alternative: Knitting or crocheting a beanie directly from recycled yarn or scraps would eliminate the need for plastic transformation and dyeing. While the "cotton candy" method is innovative, prioritizing low-energy processes and maximizing reusability is key for a truly sustainable approach. Most food service packaging is recyclable.

Today is my birthday🥳 and what better way to celebrate than with doing what I love, which is to serve. To say I was excited when I first saw this Glass Bank by 'The Glass Recycling Company' during one of my walks would be an understatement. I was beside myself with ecstacy! I saw this as an opportunity to #PlaymyPart in the hierarchy of waste management. As for me and my house, we shall reserve those wine and beer and mayonnaise bottles for a special glass bin🤭. 🍻To me, and to growth, and to separation of waste at source, one bottle at a time. #stewardship #circulareconomy #wastemanagement #seperationatsource

At the moment there are seven different ways of collecting rubbish and recycling across the county. Having one way would be more efficient and better value for money. We’ve looked at different options for collecting recycling and believe that providing two wheelie bins, one for glass, cans and plastics, and one for paper and card will help achieve our goals. When we launched Gaea, our north star was to deliver full visibility over facility operations and increase ROI for recyclers.
