https://lnkd.in/gCgZZRQ9 Article title: Assessment of orofacial functions in children using ‘off track’ mobile application: A cross-sectional study Author(s): Prajakta P Patwardhan*; Amar N Katre Journal: Journal of Dental Problems and Solutions Journal ISSN: 2394-8418 Abstract: Introduction: Orofacial dysfunctions interfere with normal growth and development and may lead to multiple outcomes, including malocclusion. Assessment of Orofacial functions is thus critical in children. Methods: ‘Off Track’, a mobile-based app was used for orofacial functional assessment. The domains assessed were breathing, swallowing, chewing, speech, sleep, and others. The dysfunctions in each domain and the ‘Off Track’ score distribution were represented as frequency with percentages. Fisher's exact test was used to detect the difference between the age groups. Unadjusted odds were estimated to assess the association between feeding history and breathing dysfunction, feeding history and sleep dysfunction, and breathing dysfunction and sleep dysfunction. #OrofacialFunctions #Malocclusion #Children #AdvancedBleedingGums #CoronalFracture #DentalAnesthesiaAndSedation #DentalPlaque #DentalRadiology #DentistryAndDiabetes #GumCancer #GumInfection #OcclusalSplint #OralLeukoplakia #Orthodentistry #Periodentistry #RootCanalTreatment #DentalRestoration #CosmeticDentistry #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #OpenAccess #ScientificJournals #PeerReviewedJournals #OpenAccessPublishers #MinimalInterventionDentistry #OralAndMaxillofacialSurgery #DentalInstruments #Xerostomia #ForensicOdontology #DentalTraumatology #ToothBleaching #RootEndSurgery

Adenoid facies refers to a facial appearance characteristic of chronic nasal airway obstruction, particularly due to enlarged adenoids in children. This condition often leads to mouth breathing, which can result in distinct facial changes over time. The typical features of adenoid facies include an open-mouth posture, with the lips apart and the tongue resting on the lower lip. This chronic mouth breathing can lead to alterations in the development of facial structures. The lower jaw may become narrow and set back, while the upper jaw might be elongated and have a high-arched palate. Consequently, the facial profile may appear elongated, with a flattened midface and a protruding upper lip. Beyond the aesthetic concerns, adenoid facies can also impact dental health and overall well-being. Mouth breathing reduces saliva flow, increasing the risk of dental cavities and gum disease. It can also lead to disturbed sleep patterns and daytime fatigue due to disrupted airflow during sleep. Adenoid removal will relieve the underlying nasal airway obstruction and can help prevent further facial alterations and improve the quality of life for affected individuals. #AdenoidFacies #NasalObstruction #MouthBreathing #PediatricHealth #FacialDevelopment #Adenoidectomy #Orthodontics #SpeechTherapy #DentalHealth #ChildHealth

My eye exam yesterday left me with mixed feelings. Optometrists will tell you that everyone develops cataracts at some point in their lives, although several factors, such as genetics, affect the age at which they manifest and what type of cataracts develop. Guess whose turn it is? Am I happy to see occasional floaters and haze in my field of vision? No. Will I have to deal with and monitor them to make sure they're not getting any worse? Yes. I remember my father had to have cataract surgery, although because my vision and overall eye health are still very good, surgery for me is less likely. See, even if you live a very healthy lifestyle, sometimes stuff like that pops up. But here's the thing: my healthy diet, exercise, meditation, and mind-body techniques continue to make a difference. Had I not: 👁 protected my eyes from direct UVA/UVB sun exposure, 👁 eaten plenty of fruits and vegetables, and 👁 avoided alcohol, the outcome could have been much worse. So despite the diagnosis, I am GRATEFUL. My calling is to help others rediscover their power to gain and maintain excellent overall health so they can have more joy, energy, confidence, loving relationships, and spiritual fulfillment in their lives. I would love the privilege of doing that for you. Let's talk about what YOU want to focus on over a virtual tea, coffee, or lemonade. I want to talk about sleep..... I ask all of my patients how they are sleeping as this is a useful gauge of how well they are before their operation and also during their recovery. Good quality sleep is vital for overall health, and there is plenty you can do to improve your sleep hygiene to support recovery after an operation. Simple measures like a cool bedroom and blackout curtains. Removing all cell phones and laptops from the bedroom and stopping screen time 1 hour before bed allows your brain and body to prepare for good sleep. If foot issues are disrupting your sleep, it's time to take action. Podiatric surgery offers solutions to ensure you wake up refreshed and ready to conquer the day. #RestfulFeet #Podiatricsurgery#hikingforhealth

Don't those Mandibular Advancement Devices cause TMD? Data suggests otherwise. In fact, as this whitepaper shows, untreated OSA has a higher correlation to TMD for patients with untreated OSA. "Can I use eye drops while fasting?" A question many ask during #Ramadan. Optometrists are required to reassure your patients that it's okay to use eye drops while fasting, especially for medical reasons like #glaucoma or dry eyes. Research from St. Paul’s Eye Unit in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital found that almost half of Muslims worry that using eye drops might break their fast, especially if the drops drain down their throat. Most Islamic scholars agree: using eye drops doesn't break the fast. But if you're still unsure, here's a simple tip: after putting in the drops, gently press on the corner of your eye near your nose. This helps keep the drops in your eye and prevents them from reaching your throat. So don't fret about using eye drops during fasting—it's perfectly fine!" And if you want to be extra cautious, use your eye drops between Iftar and Suhoor. . . #optometrist #Ramadan #Fasting #precautions #Eyedrops #Islamic_ruling #Optometrists #Glaucoma #Dryeye #Optometrist #Vision #Eyehealth #Eyeglasses #Ophthalmology #Eyediseases #Eyecare #Optics

You might hear people mention TMJ, but did you know there's a distinction between TMJ and TMD? TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. It's the hinge-like joint on each side of your head that connects your jaw to your skull, allowing essential functions like chewing and speaking. TMD or TMJ dysfunction, on the other hand, refers to a group of conditions affecting the TMJ. This can involve inflammation, misalignment, and pain. Common signs of TMJ dysfunction include: ➡️ Clicking or popping sounds in the jaw ➡️ Grinding or clenching of teeth ➡️ Difficulty opening or closing the mouth completely ➡️ Headaches ➡️ Facial pain Research suggests a strong link between TMJ dysfunction and orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs). OMDs affect the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. Studies show that nearly 98% of individuals with TMJ dysfunction may also have an OMD.
