Biogen, UCB report phase 3 lupus win, justifying risky bet on asset that failed earlier trial. Biogen and UCB plan to move patients in the existing trial into a long-term open-label study and start a second phase 3. Biogen and UCB’s gamble on advancing into phase 3 on the back of a failed study looks to have paid off, with the partners reporting positive top-line results in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and outlining plans to start a second pivotal trial... 🌟 News from our partner network! We are pleased to highlight the work of our partner site, the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS), with their new #publication in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. In this publication, the LIOS group, in collaboration with the Malaria Biochemistry Lab at The Francis Crick Institute, reports on their work to improve the drug-like properties of peptidic boronic acid-based inhibitors targeting PfSUB1, a protease involved in the life cycle of the #malaria-causing Plasmodium falciparum parasite. Through a series of structure-activity relationship studies, they modified these PfSUB1 inhibitors to improve their selectivity and lipophilicity towards PfSUB1 over human proteasome H20S - the latter of which may elicit off-target effects. Congratulations to our partner Aigars Jirgensons and colleagues on this achievement! ➡ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eCTpyqmy #DrugDiscovery #MedicinalChemistry #MalariaResearch #EUOPENSCREENpartnersite
