Developing countries are more impacted by illicit financial flows than developed countries. The loss of tax revenue is one of the most significant effects of illicit financial flows. FDI Intelligence highlights key challenges in implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): infrastructure deficits and limited access to finance. After five years in force, many countries still haven't adopted preferential tariff rates. In 2023, intra-African trade was just 11.8% of total trade. Obstacles include slow ratification, disparities in implementation, and inadequate transport infrastructure, hindering AfCFTA’s goals of boosting trade and attracting FDI.
