The study also examined the pro-natal policies of different nations and concluded that they could potentially prevent countries from plummeting to critically low fertility rates below 1.3 Total Fertility Rate (TFR). Therefore, implementing effective strategies to mitigate demographic decline is paramount, even if reaching the ideal replacement rate of 2.1 is unattainable.

It’s easy to assume the bigger the number, the more impactful it is on the reader. But worryingly, research shows that the larger the number, the more dehumanised a statistic becomes: https://lnkd.in/eXtHxJ-3 So when you see the numbers in MSI Reproductive Choices's 2023 impact report, please pause long enough to absorb their significance. Consider what having control over their fertility meant to each one of the 23.3m people we provided reproductive healthcare to. This is what I call the infrastructure problem. The early companies that were building in fertility were solely_focused_on_women. They were typically period trackers, that helped you determine roughly when you were ovulating--and often made no mention of the male part of the fertility equation, despite the fact that it is easy, cheap and pleasurable for a man to get tested (and they account for 50% of infertility cases). These companies were also (annoyingly) called "femtech". As important as they were to moving this space forward, they unfortunately reinforced this notion that fertility was solely a women's health issue, versus an overall health issue. And so women continued to be the key, sole navigators of fertility journeys (in heterosexual couples). Two people's journeys, with one doing all the work. Grateful that today we are starting to call awareness to this imbalance! With education from companies like Legacy, Posterity Health, and Conceive reorienting these journeys around the two people involved.

Our latest survey shows there is still a culture of shame and stigma when it comes to fertility issues. Of the 1,044 adults surveyed, just over a third (34%) claim they or someone the know was stigmatised or judged because of fertility issues.
