Have we reached “capitulation” or “despondency” in the #corn & #soybeans markets in the short term? No one truly knows, but the bearish “consensus” is almost as loud right now as the “bullish consensus” was near the peak multiple times this past couple of years. **Long term fundamentals are definitely not bullish & can absolutely mean much lower prices of soybeans & corn…** HOWEVER 1) commodity markets don’t always trade on “fundamentals” only 2) seasonality and investor positioning must be taken into consideration in the short term Many commodity markets can and do often move aggressively counter to or well in excess of “fundamentals” (hello there #cotton #cocoa #orangejuice) Careful as we navigate the peaks and troughs of markets and the emotions that often follow… And remember that in commodity markets, the “consensus view” are often times traps. Raw sugar futures in New York fell by 3.5%, the largest one-day drop in a month. Traders anticipate increased cane crushing in Brazil after a May slowdown caused by lower-quality cane.
