🌱 BIP Task Force 3 works to identify the EU-wide potential for sustainable biomass sources to meet the 35 bcm production target by 2030 and the further ramp-up towards 2050. It unites companies, business associations, research centers, JRC, and DG AGRI. 📝 How to secure the supply of sustainable feedstocks for biomethane? Task Force 3 analysed the untapped potential of utilising marginal and contaminated lands across Europe. Curious to learn more? Bioplastics are a type of plastic made from renewable biomass sources, such as corn starch, sugarcane, or even algae. Unlike traditional plastics derived from fossil fuels, bioplastics have the potential to be more environmentally friendly, as they can be produced from renewable raw materials and may have a lower carbon footprint. However, it's essential to consider the entire life cycle of bioplastics, including factors like production processes and waste disposal, to assess their overall environmental impact accurately. #BioPlastics #Suatainability #Renewablesources #RACE #raceconferences

The use of alternative sources of virgin fossil carbon, including bio-based feedstocks, is crucial in Europe’s journey to reach a net-zero #circulareconomy. ♻ We consider #biobased feedstock, derived from biomass, as an important part of the overall transition towards sustainable carbon for producing polyolefins, together with recycled, and carbon capture polyolefins. 🌍 Today, PCEP calls for the EU to promote the availability and production of sustainably sourced biobased feedstock, which will help enable the carbon footprint reduction of polyolefins. 📉 READ the position paper below:

Curious how Avgol's Biotransformation Technology works? We’ll break it down in 3 simple phases: 🍃 Phase 1: The new product performs as you’d expect from a high-quality wipe. 🍃 Phase 2: If the product ends up in the open-air environment, natural elements activate the chemical biodegradation process. 🍃 Phase 3: The bioavailable wax is safely returned to nature by transforming into carbon dioxide, biomass, and water. AKA: It’s gone for good. Learn more: avgolwipes.com #Avgol #AvgolWipes #Biotransformation #Sustainability #GreenTech

So far, #lignin has not been valorised for industrial applications a lot. We are determined to change this at our #LeunaBiorefinery. 🌳 The successful utilization of lignin can broaden the spectrum of renewable resources in producing chemicals, fuels, and materials. 🌳 We will produce an entirely new category of #biochemicals produced from lignin: Our UPM BioMotion (TM) Renewable Functional Fillers (RFF). 🌳 Lignin-based Renewable Functional Fillers (RFF) offer a sustainable alternative to carbon black and precipitated silica in a broad range of rubber and plastic applications. #feedstockfriday #beyondfossils #upmbiorefining #upmbiochemicals

We recently spoke with Michael Reubold from CHEManager regarding our #UPMBiochemicals business and how our Leuna biorefinery will convert sustainably sourced, certified hardwood into next generation biochemicals that will enable the vital shift away from fossil-based to renewable materials. Read below interview with Nina Heiming (in German only) to learn more about UPM Biorefining and how we are driving the sustainable transformation across a wide range of industries- for a future #beyondfossils. Innovations that offer alternatives to fossil-based materials are at the core of UPM’s strategy, driving its transformation as a #bioeconomy frontrunner. At our biorefineries, we are pioneering sustainable chemistry – innovating in chemical processes, scaling biorefining and unlocking the potential of biomass to transform industries – to radically reduce the footprint of our materials and provide better choices to consumers. A target for sustainably grown, bio-based feedstock for polyolefin production and ambitious recycling targets for products (high-quality recylate and low emissions of course). Sounds like aiming for a #circularbioeconomy 😊

What is the fuss about recycled pet caps? Are you seriously think this will have an impact? PET recycling is very well established - no lack of demand or supply. So why would a materials company not integrated in PET, not in waste management or making caps (having the infrastructure) spend time in this except to distract from the real issues in the business.
