Networking is more than exchanging business cards: it’s about building genuine relationships. But how exactly? Here’s what to do if you’re looking to boost your career through networking: • Make a list of upcoming events for your industry that you could feasibly attend, and make plans to go to at least two in the next six months. • Foster new relationships by following up any introductions with a personalised email. • LinkedIn is your vehicle for making an impression online, so make sure it reflects your experience and skills. • Think about people in your industry you admire: could they be your next mentor? Ask them. • Sector-specific networking groups exist everywhere. Join one to spark valuable connections with people in your industry. #Networking #ProfessionalNetworking #CareerGrowth #IndustryEvents

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my career journey is the immense power of networking. 🌐 Whether you're just starting out or are a seasoned professional, building strong connections can open doors to new opportunities, provide support, and offer fresh perspectives. Here are a few tips on effective networking: Attend Industry Events: Conferences, webinars, and meetups are great places to meet like-minded professionals. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and ask questions. Engage on LinkedIn: Share your insights, comment on posts, and join groups related to your field. Meaningful interactions can lead to lasting connections. Offer Help: Networking isn’t just about what you can gain. Be proactive in offering assistance and sharing your expertise. It builds goodwill and can lead to reciprocal support. Follow Up: After meeting someone, send a follow-up message. Mention something specific from your conversation to remind them of your interaction. Mentorship: Seek out mentors and be open to mentoring others. 'Im 60 - I've never networked. What should I do?’ Let me share a story that might resonate with many of you. Meet Sally, a seasoned professional who, like many, dedicated her career to hard work and expertise. Sally realised that, despite her vast experience, she had never tapped into the world of networking. The idea seemed daunting at first, but Sally decided it was time to step out of her comfort zone. Guess what? Networking isn't about age; it's about building meaningful connections. Sally attended industry events, joined online communities, and reached out to former colleagues. She discovered a wealth of opportunities, mentorship, and even lifelong friends along the way. So, whether you're 25 or 60, it's never too late to start networking! Here are three simple steps to kickstart your networking journey: 1️⃣ Identify Your Goals: What do you want to achieve through networking? Whether it's career advancement, mentorship, or business opportunities, clarifying your goals will guide your networking efforts. 2️⃣ Online & Offline Engagement: Leverage both virtual platforms and in-person events. Join LinkedIn groups, attend webinars, and participate in local meet-ups. Remember, meaningful connections can happen anywhere! 3️⃣ Be Authentic: People connect with people, not resumes. Share your story, be genuine, and show interest in others. Authenticity opens doors to lasting connections that go beyond professional benefits. Embrace the journey, celebrate small wins, and remember, you're not alone. I was honored to participate in an online networking event at my university, where the guest speakers discussed the power of networking in the business world. Combined with my experience, I realize the value of networking and some foundation to build a network. Why is business networking essential for career success? - People do business with people they find trustworthy and profitable: people will give preference in projects, offers, or events to those familiar with your hard skills, personality, and capacity for contribution. Because of this, networking offers people an advantage over others in terms of professional prospects. - Improve your attitude and perspective in various areas: here is your chance to engage with different individuals with varying abilities. I imagine each person excelling in a field where they could assist as a mentor. These mentors will give us advice on how to get through circumstances in the future and build our confidence. How do you build the right network? - Build personal branding because we are the most powerful marketing tool: take advantage of social media to have personal branding that creates valuable impressions for viewers. In addition, how we communicate, the words that come out of our mouths, and other skills like asking questions and active listening are how others will evaluate us. - Nurturing existing relationships: proactively nurture ongoing connections, strike up informal conversations, and share points of view with them. Besides, building a psychological safety zone will significantly strengthen that network. *P/s: the picture below is one of my favorite projects, where I get to meet and connect with lots of people* #Networking #NetworkingSkills #careerdevelopment

In the world of professional development, there's a saying that holds true: "Your network is your net worth." Indeed, the relationships we cultivate throughout our lives can have a profound impact on our personal and professional success. But for many, the idea of networking can be intimidating or overwhelming. However, starting young and continuously building a strong network can yield countless benefits in the long run. Firstly, let's debunk the myth that networking is reserved for extroverts or those with a natural gift for schmoozing. In reality, networking is a skill that can be honed and developed by anyone, at any age/stage, regardless of personality type. Whether you're an outgoing extrovert or a more reserved introvert, there's a networking style that suits you. It's about adapting to different environments and finding authentic ways to connect with others. Personally, I find great joy in networking – it fills my cup when making new connections and seizing new opportunities. However, I recognize that not everyone shares my enthusiasm. That's why it's essential to provide resources and support for individuals who want to enhance their networking skills. In conclusion, networking is not just about exchanging business cards or making small talk at networking events.
