What does 'Hiring in an Indigenous Way' mean? Let’s dive in. Traditional hiring methods can be full of barriers, like requiring resumes, overlooking employment gaps, or failing to recognize transferable skills. 'Hiring in an Indigenous Way' means decolonizing the hiring process. Krislyn, OCM's Corporate & Community Partnerships Coordinator, experienced this firsthand. Nearly 3 years ago, she applied for her role through a questions-based hiring platform. Instead of a resume, this platform asked role-relevant questions, designed by OCM with the assistance of Elders and knowledge keepers from the Eastern Indigenous community. These questions aimed to build a deeper connection, asking about candidates' backgrounds, career aspirations, and transferable skills. Initially, Krislyn doubted her qualifications, but a reminder email prompted her to complete her application. The rest is history!
