Ever heard of the adage “Business is War”? As a war history aficionado, I could not help thinking about the surprising parallels between Business and Wars. They are like unexpected Allies in Strategy. A well-defined business strategy is like a meticulously crafted battle plan, designed to outmanoeuvre competition. Remember how the German war machine’s ‘Blitzkrieg’ swept through most of Europe in the early part of the war? Consider the strategic foresight of Jeff Bezos, who revolutionized e-commerce with Amazon. Planning isn't just about the next move; it's about seeing the entire battlefield. In both war and business, decisive leadership in the heat of the battle can turn the tide. During World War II, Winston Churchill’s steadfast leadership inspired an entire nation to keep fighting against all odds. Echoing this very similar resolve, Howard Schultz’s tenacious leadership revitalized Starbucks and turned it into a global powerhouse, steering it to victory. Adaptability is crucial on both fronts. Think of how Netflix pivoted from DVD rentals to streaming, responding to a shift in consumer preferences, much like an army adjusts its tactics based on the changing landscape of the battlefield and enemy movements. Why does this matter? Because the principles that drive wars can also drive business success. So, the next time you’re drafting a business strategy, think like a General! Anticipate challenges, plan thoroughly, lead decisively, and adapt continuously. Your battlefield is the marketplace. Go out there to Win! #BusinessStrategy #StrategicThinking #Leadership #Adaptability #LessonsFromWar

I've been seeing this a lot lately... But look, it needs to be said... Most of us do NOT need to concern ourselves with what "the rich do" when it comes to finances. Your plan should look a LOT different than Jeff Bezos's and Galen Weston's. #FinancialAdvisor #FinancialAdvice #FinancialLiteracy #FinancialEducation #FinancialPlanning #FinancialLiteracyMonth

Great line this morning. Jeff Bezos we absolutely all know where we are going and why, how we get there is up to everyone to decide. This reminds me of the Steve Jobs quote "It doesn't make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do". Bezos statement around 'flexible on details' is exactly that and as #businessleaders we know what he means. We cannot do everything, all we can do is set direction and model the culture we need to achieve our gaols, after that its up to our teams. This is never more important than engaging with customers. Our culture when our teams engage needs to shine through. As #salesleaders modelling how we do things is almost as important as what we do and I know we recognise this in ourselves as well as across our teams. Customers love integrity and passion, they get vison and our 'why' they want to feel they are part of the journey we are jointly creating, so let's get to it. Take our biggest deal and run it through this test today. #jeffbezos #inspirationalleader #positivemindset

In 1999, Jeff Bezos was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (and the joke was on him). Amazon was worth billions, but had never turned a profit. You can hear the laughs from the audience, but Bezos? Notice how he laughed with them. He focused on the future. Fast forward to last year of Q3: Amazon's profits hit $15.3 billion. As Bezos said before: "You have to be willing to be misunderstood if you're going to innovate." For IT and CX leaders, innovation often means taking risks others don’t immediately understand. With Palomarr, you can think ahead of the game as we connect you with the tools to create experiences that define the future of your business. Also, this is your Monday reminder: Let them laugh. You're building something remarkable anyway. One of the hardest things in business is to focus on the long-term bets rather than the short-term ones. Especially when it comes to public companies. But playing the long game (or the infinite game as Simon Sinek says) is the differentiator between giants and those that are forgotten in Wall Street's cemetery. Below is one of the quotes from Jeff Bezos that encapsulates that philosophy better than anyone.

You only get the results you aim for if you are measuring correctly. Great story from the previous Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. During a metrics review, he disagreed with the metric being stated relative to customer service call wait times. So, to exemplify, he awkwardly made the entire meeting stop and listen to him call the customer service center to see how long it took. That moment showed customer empathy and real leadership. #leadership #customerobsession #customersuccess

At 30, Jeff Bezos was a senior VP at D.E. Shaw, holding a fantastic role. When he shared his idea of starting an online bookstore with his boss, the response was, “It’s a good idea, but probably better suited to someone without a great job.” This moment led Jeff to reflect using what he called the "regret-minimisation framework": ✨ At 80, would I regret not giving it a go? ✨ Would failing be worse than never knowing what might have been? The answer was simple: he’d be proud of trying, even if it didn’t work out. But the thought of not trying? That would stay with him forever. Sometimes, the boldest moves are the ones that define your future. 🚀 Like my content? Follow me Jimmy Acton for more! 🙌 Credit: Rubén Domínguez Ibar

🎬The First Customer's Clip of the Day🎬 John Rossman shared that in 2002, 90% of Amazon's business was first-party sales of books, music, and videos, and the company was often doubted. He led the launch of Amazon's marketplace, which now accounts for 60% of units sold and emphasized the importance of culture, leadership, and innovation in Amazon's growth. Discussing Rossman Partners, he highlighted the value of improving and making existing processes more efficient, a skill he came to appreciate over time. #AmazonGrowth #Leadership #Innovation #MarketplaceLaunch #BusinessOptimization

More organizations should approach retaining good talent like the Saints did with Alvin Kamara. Sometimes people leave jobs because no one asks them to stay. Future productivity should be a factor, but there’s something to be said for recognizing and rewarding loyalty and the impact that the presence of one person can have on the rest of the team and the whole organizational culture. If you have players on your team whose departure would be a real loss, maybe ask them now what it would take to keep them instead of being surprised when they walk out the door.
